Chad Petree and Jeremy Dawson grew up in Oklahoma and were involved in previous music projects together, including the soundtrack for the videogame Grand Theft Auto III in 2000 and Cloud2Ground. After relocating to Los Angeles, California in 2004, the two recruited vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin.
Their debut album, We Are Pilots was originally released in January 2005, though versions of the album featuring different cover art and tracklisting would be released later the following year. Three singles were issued: "Le Disko", "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday". We Are Pilots received a Grammy Award nomination on 6 December 2007 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album, but lost to The Chemical Brothers.
The band's second studio album, Season of Poison, was released on 4th November 2008, with Sisely Treasure as vocalist. They have released two singles from their second album: "Ghost Town" and "Ricochet!".
In 2009, Shiny Toy Guns released "Major Tom", a Peter Schilling cover.
In 2011, Carah Faye Charnow returned to Shiny Toy Guns. In addition, Daniel Johansson also joined the band on guitar, synth and bass. In March 2011, the band released a new single "The Sun", available to download for free.
In May 2012 the band announced that Daniel Johansson left the band.

Ghost Town
Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics

Everyone buried in waste land
We don't want to
We don't have to be like that
Living in ghost town
All the boys shout it out loud now
All the girls scream it out louder
We don't want to
[Chorus]
Hold me back you know were never gonna back down
Hold me back you know were never gonna back down
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go of me
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go let go of me
Let go let go of me
Let go let go of me
Everyone living in ghost town
Everyone buried in waste land
We don't want to
We don't have to be like that
Living in ghost town
All the boys shout it out loud now
All the girls scream it out louder
We don't want to
We don't have to live like that
[Chorus]
It's nearly over, the last train is near
And it's leaving behind those tears
These are the bad lands
The worst place to fear
Making place for the ones we left here
They're calling calling
To say goodbye
[Repeat: x2]
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go of me
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go let go of me
Let go let go of me
Let go let go of me
The song "Ghost Town" by Shiny Toy Guns talks about living in a society that has become a ghost town - a place where everything and everyone seems to be dead or dying. The repeated line "Everyone living in ghost town, everyone buried in wasteland" emphasizes the sense of hopelessness and despair that surrounds the world portrayed in the song. However, the chorus offers a glimmer of hope by suggesting that we don't have to accept that fate and that we can choose to fight back against it.
The lines "Hold me back, you know we're never gonna back down... We're dead in this ghost town, you better let go, so let go of me" suggest that the singer is calling on their community to stand together in the face of adversity, to not give up, and to refuse to be held back by the forces that would try to keep them down. The final lines, "They're calling, calling to say goodbye", further emphasize the sense of loss and abandonment that pervades the song.
Overall, "Ghost Town" is a powerful commentary on the state of modern society and the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that often feels hollow and empty.

This band was waaaay ahead of their time. If this was released today it would be a hit it's just sad they never got as big as they should have.

@fritzmusic
I am a drummer that played with two primary core of these guys back in Oklahoma in the 90's before they cranked all this stuff out. I agree. They've always been ahead of the curve. They were too edgy for me back then.
