Shpongle's first track, "Vapour Rumours", was released on TIP Records' Infinite Excursions compilation in 1996. Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released in 1998 on Twisted Records. On 9 September 2014, Posford confirmed beginning work on a sixth album, which was eventually announced as Codex VI and set for release in October 2017. On 3 October, even before the release of Codex VI, the duo announced via a Facebook video that they have begun working on their seventh studio album.
Posford is generally responsible for the synthesizers, studio work, and live instrumentation, while Raja Ram contributes broad musical concepts and flute arrangements. Raja Ram stated in an interview that "Shpongle" is an umbrella term for feeling positive and euphoric emotions. Shpongle's music is heavily influenced by psychedelic experiences and frequently makes use of sonic textures that approximate psychedelic states as well as vocal samples relating to consciousness expansion, hallucinations, and altered states of awareness. For example, the track "A New Way to Say 'Hooray'", contains a vocal sample of Terence McKenna describing the effects of DMT.

Shpongle Lyrics

And we noticed that women, especially the hippy ladies, started reacting differently. With your permission their nipples get hard; they start dancing in a whole other kind of way. Catching butterflies in the air. People get goosepimples. They laugh, they cry at the same time. They get horny and holy at the same time- you see them.
This one brought me down to my knees. I had to hold onto the wall. My knees shaking, quivering. My head feels like a frisbee.
The lyrics of Shpongle's song 'My Head Feels Like a Frisbee' describe the feeling of being disconnected and disoriented, as if one's head has taken on a strange and unusual shape. The singer suggests that their head feels like a frisbee that is twice its normal size or a football with the goal posts moved, indicating that they are experiencing a warped sense of reality. The feeling is so powerful that they have to hold onto the walls for support. The singer goes on to describe the reactions of women to this feeling, particularly hippy ladies who seem to respond in a whole other kind of way. They become aroused and spiritual at the same time, with their movements and actions being akin to trying to catch butterflies in the air. The experience is so intense that it brings the singer down to their knees, with their head still feeling like a frisbee, and their knees shaking and quivering.
The lyrics of this song indicate a sense of altered consciousness, a feeling of being out of one's body or experiencing a completely different reality. The strange sensations are so intense that they can evoke a sense of spirituality and arousal at the same time. The reactions of women to this feeling suggest a sense of deep connection with the world around them, as if they are experiencing something that is both physical and spiritual at the same time. The song is a testament to the power of music to evoke strong emotional responses and to create experiences that transcend the limits of everyday reality.

0:56 makes me picture Borat riding a rusty old bicycle down a rubbly street in some backwards village in Kazakhstan, struggling not to tip the rusty bike over, and meandering around the chickens pecking about the street.
