He shot straight onto the scene with his debut Single On & On in 1993. A year later, only 14 years of age, he released his debut album, AKA The Rugged Child. Lyrically, he impressed rappers with a skill level that would make any hip-hop fan forget about his age altogether. As a native of Staten Island, NY, Shyheim even spent time living with Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah. Shyheim released his second LP, The Lost Generation, in 1996. The acclaimed Manchild followed in 1999.

Shyheim was one of the dopest MCs in my era, and being so close to him in age, it felt like he was one of the voices in my generation. Even when he did guest spots on joints with Little Vicious and Immature, he stole the show. I still have my DVDs of Original Gangstas and In Too Deep, where he got his acting on. I had to restart this because I didn't finish it the first time and man y'all really made him feel proud it seems like and made him feel worthy of being there getting his flowers too. This was special to see because at first I'm sure people were expecting the opposite and it to go left but it seems like shy really learned from his prison experience and gained a lot of self awareness. This showed Shyeim in a different light. Great guy after all, great session. Nore has the first move right, admitting his mistake, but it's ruined when he starts trying to justify the mistake, or when he brings up the apology as a compliment to himself "...because as a man". The ppl around you will say that about you whenever you apologize genuinely. Just admit you were careless, listen to Shyeim's reaction about it, accept it then that's it.
