Solstice Lyrics

The summerlands made home
A hollow shell, our utopia
Now empty lies his oaken throne
Veiled in mist, true revelation
Secrets of this blessed realm
Through life and death, commiserations
Each day, another pain
Each dawn I die, at dusk we pray
Empty dreams in midnight clouds
Cloaked in doom, the darkest shroud
Sleep the years hind walls of silence
Safe in cairns of deepest black
Weary of strife, the rancour
Strength of conviction, now flowing back
Cast in iron our resolutions
The melting mirror would not show
Reflections of a weaker side
Only here are we all
I shall not drown in his golden tears
Save. these truths for the weaker man
Nor lay my head at his feet
To tremble as the meekest lamb
Kiss me now for I have sinned
Upon my brow a crown of thorns
Ease this doubt with whispered promise
As I open my veins to greet the dawn
The lyrics to Solstice's song "Only the Strong" are shrouded in ambiguity, inviting various interpretations. The first verse seems to refer to a once-beautiful utopia, now abandoned and ruled by a vacant king, portrayed through the image of a moth drawn to a flame. The emptiness is juxtaposed against the secrets and blessings of the realm that the singer is trying to uncover, unafraid of the struggles and pain it may bring. The singer goes on to describe how the years seem to have gone by in a silent slumber, but beneath the surface, the strength of conviction is slowly returning to combat the bitterness and conflict that has weakened them. The final lines, however, introduce an element of religious symbolism, with the singer invoking the image of a crown of thorns and their veins opening to the dawn, suggesting that they may have sacrificed themselves for a higher cause.
It is unclear what the "he" whom the singer resists throughout the song symbolizes, but he seems to represent weakness and complacency, contrasted with the strength and conviction of the singer. The song seems to champion the idea that those who are strong-willed and resilient will overcome adversity and emerge victorious, echoing imagery of mythical heroes who rise above the trials they face.
