1) Speech Patterns is a punk rock band from Australia, formed in 2012.
With influences such as Lungs, Propagandhi and A Wilhelm Scream, Speech Patterns have produced a sound that is sure to leave you picking up your jaw by the end of an intense, melodic and excitable live show.
Following their independently released self-titled 7” vinyl in 2014 Speech Patterns Played shows relentlessly with local and international bands such as Luca Brasi, Title Fight, Propogahndi, A Wilhelm Scream, The Smith Street Band and The Menzingers.
After slowing down in late 2015 with an indefinite hiatus, Speech Patterns have returned with a fresh lineup that has once again sparked their passion to play for their own blend of fast melodic punk. Following the release of CROSSWATER in May, 2017 is turning into a big year for the four Tasmanians with a full-length record in the works as well as a return to touring.

High Regard
Speech Patterns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You're much too late—your petty fate in pieces on the ground
Blame all your faults and failures on your own human nature
Speak now or forever hold your pride
You think you're not just another, but you're no better than the others
Rumor has a way of seeing through the end of anything
Truth will find a way of seeing through the end of anything
Who would've thought that anyone could be so vain?
But it's the little things you do that go and give yourself away
You're onto something new, another breakthrough
You think this could be the one
But that'll never be
No, it's not hard to see
Your own hands will bring you to your knees
You wanted more than you could afford
You think you're not just another, but you're no better than the others
Rumor has a way of seeing through the end of anything
Truth will find a way of seeing through the end of anything
Tell me something
How does it feel to be the only thing that keeps your dreams from being real?
It's a fallacy at best, and you're already on the edge
And now it seems that you're the only one drowning in regret
Face me down the line, and bring your worthless alibi
Your self-proclaimed bequest to fame's the only thing tainting your name
You think you're not just another
But you're no better than the others
Rumor has a way of seeing through the end of anything
Truth will find a way of seeing through the end of anything
The song "High Regard" by Speech Patterns is a confrontational message to someone who has let their pride and self-importance get the better of them. The opening lines convey a sense of overwhelming pressure that is "too much to take in now." The target of the message is "much too late" as their "petty fate" is already in pieces on the ground. The lyrics then encourage the individual to take responsibility for their shortcomings and not blame their "human nature" for their faults and failures.
The second verse emphasizes the message that the individual is not above others and that their vanity and arrogance are apparent to everyone around them. Their self-destructive behavior and misguided priorities will eventually lead to their downfall. The lyrics question how it feels to be the only thing standing in the way of one's own dreams coming true. The song ends with a challenge to the individual to face up to their choices and bring forth their "worthless alibi."
Overall, the message of the song is that one's ego and self-centeredness are not worth sacrificing one's values, dreams, and authenticity. The lyrics acknowledge that the truth will always come out and that rumors are often grounded in reality.
