Speech Patterns Lyrics

And it's so obvious to see
You're not quite who you used to be
So let me make this clear…
You're too deep into the whole you've found
(You've found) Yourself buried six feet underground
And we won't be there when it all comes around
So find your own way out…
Don't try and point the blame
It's your own fault that everything was taken away
We're not alike, you see
You hold no face to me
You're living life on hold
When will you let this go?
We're not alike, you see
You're more than fake to me
You put on quite a show
Why can't you let this go?
Your words fleet so carelessly
That's not the way it's supposed to be
Well, your poison, it lacks substance
But it's enough to get you high
There's too little time in this precious life
To waste mending the halls of your shattered mind
So you go your way, and I'll go mine
You can point the blame, but God knows I tried…
We're not alike, you see
You hold no face to me
You're living life on hold
When will you let this go?
We're not alike, you see
You're more than fake to me
You put on quite a show
Why can't you let this go?
You wait with blood-shot eyes
And it's so obvious to see
You're not quite who you used to be
So let me make this clear…
You're too deep into the whole you've found
(You've found) Yourself buried six feet underground
And we won't be there when it all comes around
So find your own way out.
The song "Relapse" by Speech Patterns speaks about observing a person struggling with addiction and their failure to confront or overcome it. The song encourages the person to find their own way out and to stop blaming others for their problems. The lyrics emphasize the danger of addiction, how it can change a person, and make them unrecognizable to their loved ones.
The first verse talks about the changes that the person has undergone due to their addiction: the bloodshot eyes, and the fact that they are no longer the same person they once were. The singer acknowledges this fact and warns that they won't be there to support the person when the consequences come around. The second verse speaks directly to the person, telling them that it’s their own fault that they've lost everything due to their addiction, and that they should stop pointing fingers and trying to blame others for their problems. The chorus points out the fact that the singer and the addicted person are different and not alike. The lyrics repeat that the person is living life on hold and is unable to let go of their addiction.
The bridge addresses the careless words that come out of the person’s mouth, telling them that the poison is empty and lacks substance, but it is enough to get high. Finally, the song concludes with the same chorus, emphasizing that the person needs to find their own way out and cannot rely on others.
