Very early on, Stéphane was fascinated by different kinds of music, listening to pop, rock and new wave. The real trigger happened in the late 80s, when he discovered house. One day in 1997 in Paris, when he was already a fairly famous DJ, he met up with Jean-Louis Costes, who asked him to mix music at his hotel restaurant. Very soon they had the idea of a compilation which could spread worldwide the spirit of the Hôtel Costes, this mythic glamorous place. The first compilation quickly became an undeniable reference. Over a dozen more successful and intense compilations followed.
Then he was asked to deejay everywhere in the world by haute couture designers such as Gucci, actresses like Cameron Diaz, and eventually remixed "What It Feels Like for a Girl" for Madonna… Yet Stéphane Pompougnac is not only a DJ - he is also an accomplished musician, composing and producing his own songs, which he proved in 2003 with the release of his first album Living On The Edge that featured several talented artists, notably Michael Stipe from REM. Today, Stéphane Pompougnac remains one of the most recognized DJs in the world.
Pompougnac released his second album Hello Mademoiselle in early 2006 after his eighth Hôtel Costes compilation.

I Want a Little Doggie
Stéphane Pompougnac Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Trying to work out life's happy plan
Doing unto others as I'd like to have them doing unto me
When I find a very lonely soul
Soon be-kinda-comes my only goal
I feel so much better when I tell them my philosophy
But I won't be happy
Till I make you happy too.
Life's really worth living
When we are mirth giving
Why can't I give some to you
When skies are grey and you say you are blue
I'll send the sun smiling through
I want to be happy
But I won't be happy
Till I make you happy too.
When skies are grey and you say you are blue
I'll send the sun smiling through
I want to be happy
But I won't be happy
Till I make you happy too.
The lyrics to Stéphane Pompougnac's "I Want a Little Doggie" discuss the desire to bring happiness to others in order to find happiness oneself. The singer posits himself as an "ordinary man" who is attempting to find his way in life, and believes that the key to fulfillment in life is to treat others with kindness and empathy. The lyrics lament the idea that the singer cannot be happy until he has made others happy, suggesting that there is an interconnectedness between ourselves and those around us.
The sentiment of the lyrics is incredibly profound, as it underscores the powerful effect that our own attitudes and behaviors can have on the people around us. The singer of the song seeks to bring joy to those who are feeling lonely or lost (a theme that is echoed in the refrain, which discusses sending "the sun smiling through" when someone is feeling blue). The lyrics seem to suggest that by prioritizing the happiness of others, we can find happiness ourselves.
