Steam-Powered Giraffe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Spine: Open the door
R+S: A human sized package
S: Rip through tape
R: like butter
S: and cardboard
R+S: like toast
R: No time for instructions
R: Two birds
R+S: one stone
S: Fill the tank with water
R: Turn the ignition
R+S: and Hatchy Boy you're ready to go
Hatchworth: Far
(Catch Hatch Fever!)
Far
(Catch Hatch Fever!)
There's a hole
In your floor
We′ve got to
Patch it up
Give it a cover,
A latch,
A hinge,
And a turn wheel
Well now you′re talking Hatch Fever-oh!
What's the worth o′living
S: if you can't make a living
R: not living but
All: faux living
H: Is there a difference?
A fever′s a fever
Come on everybody prepare to get catchy
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Catch Hatch Fever!
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Catch Hatch Fever!
Open your heart to me
Come on everybody open up that chest cavity
S: Yeeeoh- Hatchworth that sounds a little morbid
R: Kids! D-D-D-Don't try this at home!
H: If you took that last bit of advice
You gotta get to the emergency room
We don′t want you to leave so soon
S: Follow instructions
R: And don't hurt birds
H: And generally pair your nouns with verbs
S: Study real hard
R: Eat your vitamin soup
H: When all of that's finished prepare to catch
Hatch disease
(Laaaaaaaaaa, that sounds bad)
It′s not a real disease
But if it were on another world then
(Aaaaaaaahhh)
All: We′re sorry
H: We wouldn't wish it on anybody
S: Unless it makes you stronger
R: and live longer
H: Well then that′s just a good thing wouldn't you agree?
But for now they′re just words and a good time
Come on everybody get down with the robots!
There's not much left to tell which hasn′t already been stated
Consider yourself ninety-nine point nine percent Hatchworth acclimated
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Catch Hatch Fever!
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
That should about do it.
"Hatch Fever" by Steam-Powered Giraffe is a lively and whimsical song that tells the story of the robots' excitement and enthusiasm as they prepare to fix a hole in their floor. The song starts with Rabbit and Spine opening a door to find a human-sized package, which they quickly tear through with ease - "like butter," as Rabbit puts it. With no time for instructions and a dying fire, they decide to fill the tank with water and turn the ignition, and their creation Hatchy Boy is ready to go.
Hatchworth, one of the robot characters, then sings the chorus, urging everyone to catch "Hatch Fever" with enthusiasm and energy. The robots work together to patch up the hole in their floor, using various objects like a cover, latch, hinge, and a turn wheel. They joke about the faux living and the worth of living, questioning if there's a difference. They encourage everyone to open their hearts and chest cavities, although Hatchworth humorously warns not to try it at home.
The robots continue with their playful banter, reminding everyone to follow instructions, study hard, and pair their nouns with verbs. They even mention a fictional "Hatch disease," which they apologize for even joking about and emphasize that they wouldn't wish it upon anyone. The song concludes with a joyful invitation to have a good time and get down with the robots.
Overall, "Hatch Fever" is a lighthearted and entertaining song that showcases the quirkiness and charisma of Steam-Powered Giraffe's robotic characters.

Okay but can we all just take a moment to appreciate Sam's singing abilities? He's got such a great voice going for Hatchy, and if it wasn't supposed to be mildly comedic, I bet he could really belt it out! I definitely fell in love with Hatchy thanks to this wonderful song. Great performance by all!
