In Dutch speaking countries he is best known for his 1991 hit record āPapaā - about a father/son relation. Since then he has made several albums and has also become quite popular amongst the Afrikaner population of South-Africa where he recorded several songs with crossovers between his European style and the tribal sounds of Southern Africa.
In 2004 he published as a poet. He is still performing and developing new material.

Wat een dictie heeft die Stef. Mijn docent zei vroeger altijd; "Go deep into the words". Die kunst verstaat Stef als geen ander, hij kruipt helemaal in de woorden. Zingen doe je niet alleen met je stem, ademhaling, en toonhoogtes, maar vooral ook met je bewustzijn. Hoe bewust ben je van wat je zingt? Het bewustzijn van de zanger klinkt door in zijn stem. Zingen is als het schieten van pijlen in het bewustzijn van de toehoorder. Ik weet voor velen klinkt dit allemaal te abstract. Mijn leraar zei ook: "The piece of art expresses the level of consciousness of the artist."
