Described as "classic UK rock delivered with whiskey vocals", the band have been summarised as possessing a sound akin to the genres of alternative rock and "British traditional rock". Stereophonics' debut album, Word Gets Around, was released in August 1997 and charted at number six in the UK, aided by the singles "Local Boy in the Photograph", "More Life in a Tramps Vest" and "A Thousand Trees". The band reached mainstream success with the release of Performance and Cocktails (and its promotional singles "The Bartender and the Thief", "Just Looking" and "Pick a Part That's New") in 1999 and have achieved a total of ten top-ten singles as well as one number one: "Dakota" (2005). Having sold around 10 million copies worldwide by 2016, Stereophonics are one of the most successful Welsh rock acts. Upon their release of Pull the Pin, they achieved five consecutive UK number one albums.

Movie Star
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You go to war, you need a star
You're in my soul, you're in my mind
I walk on water every night
Movie star, dunno where you are
Movie star, dunno who you are
I love your taste, I love your shape
I love the things about you, all the critics hate
You turn my water into wine
Movie star, dunno where you are
Movie star dunno who you are
You don't know what it's like (here)
You don't know what it's like (here)
You don't know what it's like (here)
Movie star
Movie star
Movie star
Movie star
Get me high, you blow my mind
You make my mundane life all worth while
You give me reason, give me rhyme
Do anything for you just, give me a sign
Movie star, dunno where you are
Movie star, dunno who you are
Movie star, dunno where you are
Movie star, dunno who you are
In "Movie Star" by Stereophonics, the lyrics focus on the idea of celebrity culture and the allure of fame. The song is full of contradictions, with the singer expressing love for the movie star while acknowledging that they don't know who they are or where they are. The first line, "Analyze tabloid lies," sets the tone for the rest of the song, highlighting the way that gossip and rumors are often the only information people have about famous individuals.
The lyrics also suggest that the movie star is a kind of representation of something greater than themselves – "You go to war, you need a star" – and that their presence is necessary in order to give meaning to certain situations. The repeated refrain of "You don't know what it's like (here)" could be interpreted as a commentary on the disconnect between those who are famous and those who are not, and the way that fame can create a barrier between people.
Ultimately, "Movie Star" is a song about the seductive power of celebrity culture and the way that it can make even the most mundane aspects of life feel more exciting. It also touches on the idea that fame is often fleeting and that the people who become famous are often not the ones who are truly deserving of it.

This song is great, it's the darker, grainer side of the Stereophonics, the underbelly if u will... Loved it then & love it now... Underrated & unappreciated but that's what I admire about it... Its very unashamedly & stereotypically got that rock & roll texture to it.
2003 it was released... Crazy... It can still stand tall & find relevance in 2days culture though...Enough praise though I ponder, after further procrastination I decide yes.
