Take Me
Stereophonics Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Trees around, some falling down
It's ok, I don't mind
You can take your clothes and run
Falling over, spinning round
Orange leaves spread on the ground
Sleep in the day
Light your fires
It could be tragic, today
Take me
Here
Take me
Here
Bowled me over from the start
Poison arrow through the heart
I'll undress you
You'll undress me
The place is dark
No one can see
Lay me down on the grassy ground
Stars aligned for miles around
I don't know you
You don't know me
Who's to know what will be, today?
Take me
Here
Take me
Here
Take me
Here
Take me
Here
The opening lyrics of the song, "The day is dawning in the rainy park," paint a vivid picture of the setting, which is a park with trees around some of which are falling. The singer is seemingly unworried about this and invites another person to "take your clothes and run." The mention of "orange leaves spread on the ground" reinforces the image of autumn, which links to the idea of things coming to an end. The line "it could be tragic, today" implies that there may be consequences to the actions taken in the song, and perhaps there's a sense of danger associated with the situation.
When the chorus kicks in, the mood momentarily shifts, and the singer pleas to be "taken" to a place unknown. The repetition of "take me" reinforces this sense of urgency and desire as if the singer feels a sense of restlessness in their current situation. Then the lyrics switch back to the situation described in the opening imagery, with the singer meeting someone who "bowled [them] over from the start." The line "poison arrow through the heart" adds a level of alarm, emphasizing the strength of the connection between the two people.
There's a real sense of intimacy described in the following lines as they undress each other while "the place is dark." The chorus reappears for the second time, repeating the same lines, with the same atmosphere of wanting to be taken away from the situation at hand. The final line, "who's to know what will be, today?" adds a sense of uncertainty to the story since it's unclear whether the singer will stay in this moment or move on.
