Midnight Drive
Still Corners Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I know, I know we're lost
I can't help myself when we drive
Oh, don't hold us back, this midnight drive You see the stars are out tonight
You see the stars are out tonight
I know, I know we're lost
I know, I know we're lost
I can't help myself when we drive
You see the stars are out tonight
The lyrics of Still Corners's song "Midnight Drive" suggest the feelings of liberation, longing, and abandon that can come with driving at night. The repeated refrain "I know, I know we're lost" evokes a sense of uncertainty and unease, but it's quickly balanced out by the thrill of the ride, as the singer "can't help" themselves when they're behind the wheel. The "midnight" aspect of the drive further emphasizes the sense of surreality, as if the singer has slipped into a dream-like state for a while.
The line "You see the stars are out tonight" speaks to the sense of wonder and awe that can come with being out in the world at night. With the hustle and bustle of daytime life, it's easy to take the stars for granted, or not even realize they're there. But at night, they twinkle and shine, reminding us of how small we are in the grand scheme of things, but also how connected we are to the wider universe.
Overall, "Midnight Drive" is a song about being lost and found at the same time. The physical experience of driving is juxtaposed with the emotional journeys that we all take in life, as we try to find our way, sometimes without a clear sense of direction. But even when we're a little lost, there's still beauty and magic to be found on the journey, whether it's in the stars overhead or the simple joy of being alive.

Great tune. The fact that it has so few views only tells how creativity and good taste have been sidelined by the "industry", and so many young kids are left in the dark.
