I Want You Back
Storm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So you think that you'll make it alone
Well I've tried before, it's hard on your own
You're looking for something to fill up your days
And I think that I know why you're feeling this way

Anything you want sugar, just don't walk away
And you still can't make up your mind you know
Should you stay or should I go
Baby, oh baby, we can work it out
Maybe, just maybe, you'll turn around and I'll hear you say

[chorus]
Want you back, won't you come back
Want you back, back in my arms tonight
Well I'll try, and I'll try, and I'll try again
And I'll never give up till the very end

Why won't you listen, what's going on?
It doesn't matter who's right and who's wrong
Well I've been thinking, time has passed

And you know better than to think like that
You got me baby and I've got you, tell me if there's anything we can do
Baby, oh baby, we can work it out
Maybe, just maybe, save me from another broken heart

[Chorus]

Want you back, back in my arms tonight
Want you back, want you back, can't you hear me calling [repeat: x 3]

You know I love you girl

Overall Meaning

The song "I Want You Back" is an emotional plea from Storm to a former lover. The first verse of the song describes the loneliness and difficulty of being on their own, indicating that the ex-lover has tried to make it on their own before. Storm suggests that the ex-lover is searching for something to fill the void that they are feeling in their life. The songwriter believes they know what the ex-lover is looking for, and the offer to provide anything they need, pleading with them not to walk away. The chorus of the song is a direct plea for the lover to return to Storm’s arms. The singer says they will continue to try and never give up until they win their lover back.

In the second verse of the song, Storm wonders, "Why won't you listen? What's going on?" conveying their frustration and confusion about the relationship's status. The songwriter stresses that it doesn't matter who was right or who was wrong regarding the conflicts in the relationship, suggesting they should put aside their differences and focus on their love's strength. Storm proclaims that the lovers have each other and that they should "work it out." The chorus follows as an echo of the first chorus, reiterating the plea to win the ex-lover back.

LYRICS

Whatever goes around
Eventually comes back to you
So you gotta be careful, baby
And look both ways
Before you cross my mind

Did you ever wonder?
Yeah, do you ever wonder
What he might be going through?
On his own and
The demons that he's facing alone
I hate that sometimes I can't go home
And it ain't just the same on the phone, no
But everybody's gotta go on
Don't they? (Yes, we do, baby)

So if you need a hero (if you need a hero)
Just look in the mirror (just look in the mirror)
No one's gonna save you now
So you better save yourself
And everybody's hurting
Everybody's going through it
But you just can't give up now
'Cause you gotta save yourself (Yeah, I gotta hang on)

The sun'll come out
Nothing good ever comes easy
I know times are rough
But winners don't quit
So don't you give up
The sun'll come out
But we've been struggling endless days
Someday we'll find the love
'Cause after the storm's
When the flowers bloom

Kali, what you mean?
I take it offensive
'Cause I'm the hottest flower boy
That popped up on the scene
Feeling better, better than ever
'Cause your umbrella, -brella (bright)
Sun is beaming on me like headlights beaming on Bambi
Now let's pretend the street is the room
And you are a Camry
'Cause your drama candid
The Tito to my Randy
Now let's produce some thrillers
My chocolate wit' yo vanilla, uh

The sun'll come out
Nothing good ever comes easy
I know times are rough
But winners don't quit
So don't you give up
The sun'll come out
But we've been struggling endless days
Someday we'll find the love
'Cause after the storm

I know it's hard
But do you even really try?
Maybe you could understand
When all you had to do was ask
And just open your mind
When everything is passing by
And all you had to do was try
Yeah, all you had to was try
Try, try, try, try, try
All you had to do was try
Try, try, try, try

This song is the type of feeling the feeds my soul... hard to explain but I’ve longed for a song like this and think everyone needs to find music that feeds your soul. This song is a great catharsis for my repressed emotions that I never knew I had.
