Tim met ex-drummer Ben Davis during a cigarette break at school. Ben (who then played bass) and Tim started to play together on a regular basis until Tim invited Airin Older, a fellow classmate, to join. Ben was moved to the position of drummer and Airin filled in for Ben on bass. Marko DeSantis was added into the band after meeting Tim back stage at a Superdrag concert. The pair apparently met because Tim was wearing a suit that resembled the one Marko wore to the show. Tim asked Marko to join the band before even hearing Marko play a single note on the guitar.
In the Summer of 2004, the critically acclaimed "Vans Warped Tour" featured Sugarcult, who were, in fact, the final band to play at the year's tour.
After the tour, the Band teamed up with Green Day, and New Found Glory on their tour of the US, and were a huge success.
In 2006, The EA Games title "Burnout 3: Takedown" featured the song "Memory" from the Album "Palm Trees and Power Lines" and was an instant success.
After years of touring and recording, Ben was asked to leave the band due to his extensive alcoholism. Ben has said he would rather be sober out of the band than drunk and still in the band. Kenny Livingston was drafted into the band after recording Palm Trees And Power Lines and touring with the band.

Sugarcult Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too late, cuz everyone stayed the same
I'm gone so long break out cuz I'm better off on my own
Today I changed
But Too late cuz every town feels the same
I'm different and your distant
Add it up and it makes no difference
Everybody's talking bout blowin up the neighborhood
Everybody's gonna break it up today
Everybody's talkin bout blowin up the neighborhood
Runnin' just to get away
Stuck in America
Stuck In America
I'm lost in America
Stuck In America
Today I changed
New town with the same old face
One way to shake
This place that I can't escape
Everybody's talking bout blowing up the neighborhood
Everybody's gonna watch it burn today
Everybody's talkin bout wakin' up the neighborhood
I'm still tryin' to escape
Stuck in America
Stuck In America
Im lost in America
Stuck In America Today (Today)
Everybody's talking bout blowin up the neighborhood
Everybody's gonna break it up today
Everybody's talkin bout blowin up the neighborhood
All I ever wanted was to get away
Stuck In America
Stuck In America
Stuck in America
Stuck in America
Get away
(from all that sh*t that you put me through)
Get away
(from all that sh*t that you put me through)
Get Away
(from all that sh*t that you put me through)
Get Away
(from all that sh*t that you put me through)
Today I changed
"Sugar cult's song Stuck in America" is a reflective song from the album "Start Static" released in 2001. The song is a representation of the frustration and sense of being stuck in the same place without any progress or future prospect. The opening lines of the song, "Today I changed, too late, cuz everyone stayed the same, I'm gone so long break out cuz I'm better off on my own" are an expression of the singer's self-discovery and solution to the problem.
The song continues with the chorus, "Everybody's talking bout blowin up the neighbourhood, everybody's gonna break it up today" which highlights the frustration and desire to break free from the mundane and monotonous cycle that has set in. The repetition of the phrase "Stuck in America" in the chorus, further emphasizes the feeling of being trapped and unable to escape.
The lyrics, "today I changed, but too late cuz every town feels the same, I'm different and your distant, add it up and it makes no difference" signify the feeling of alienation and being an outsider, even after changing one's self. The desire to escape is further emphasized in the bridge, "All I ever wanted was to get away," which displays a lack of hope in the current situation and a yearning for something new.
Overall, Stuck in America is a song that signifies the frustration and feeling of being stuck in a cycle without any hope of change. The song is an expression of the desire to break free and escape from the mundane to discover something new.

I feel like Sugarcult is such an underrated band. I loved this album.

I really wish punk rock music would get more clout these days, just like in the early 2000's.

If you've never heard of Squirtgun, look them up. I was good friends with the lead singer in High school back in the 80's. This was on one of their albums from the 90's. They also performed the title song 'Social' from the movie Mallrats. Matt Hart was a hell of a guy and a good man to have as a friend. I treasure those days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUwioBRJ9L8

I always felt bad for Sugarcult. They released this song a month before the 9/11 attacks and as I remember it, it was really blowing up and climbing the charts. Once 9/11 happened no one would play this song anymore since it could be construed as being unpatriotic, and they lost all their momentum.
APimpNamedSlickBack
That happened with the music industry in general after 9/11 besides a few patriotic country and rock songs. In the Afroman documentary they said the same thing about his song "Because I Got High" It was tearing up the radio and the billboard charts then after 9/11 it all to a screeching hault and hes been living off live shows ever since.
