Jungle
Tame Impala Lyrics

Trying to be somebody, somebody that I'm not
I keep trying to find somebody that I know
So deep into the jungle we go
On your journey to the middle of nowhere
Feeling your loss comes right on cue
So are you waiting for insanity
I bet you're not that happy
Now it's run right out on you
I said hey I gotta follow you girl
So into the jungle we go, oh yeah
I got evil in my veins
Just to cause you pain don't get me through
You just smile, I will be right
And if I'm wrong then I'm testing you
I bet you're not that happy
That I won't run and hide
I said hey you got all the angels
But the devils on my side, ah yeah
He is trying to fool you, girl
He is trying to fool you, girl
He is trying to
In the first verse of "Jungle" by Tame Impala, the singer expresses a sense of dissatisfaction with their current self, as they are constantly attempting to be someone they are not. The lyrics convey a struggle to find their true identity and purpose, as they delve deep into unexplored territory - symbolized by the metaphorical jungle. This could represent the daunting and unknown path they are embarking on in search of self-discovery and authenticity, despite the challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead.
The second verse delves deeper into the emotional and mental turmoil experienced by the singer on their journey. The mention of being in the "middle of nowhere" suggests a feeling of isolation and confusion, while the reference to "feeling your loss comes right on cue" hints at a recurring sense of grief or disappointment. The question posed - "So are you waiting for insanity, or is it sanity waiting for you?" - reflects a contemplative exploration of one's state of mind and the constant battle between inner turmoil and peace.
As the song progresses, there is a shift in perspective towards a second character, possibly addressing someone the singer is in a relationship with. The lines convey a sense of conflict and tension between the two individuals, with accusations of deception and manipulation. The reference to "evil in my veins" and causing pain suggests a toxic dynamic, where one person may be acting out of a darker impulse. The juxtaposition between angels and devils highlights the internal struggle between good and bad influences, as well as the complexity of human relationships.
In the final stanza, the repeated refrain of "He is trying to fool you, girl" suggests a sense of betrayal or deceit within the relationship. There is a palpable sense of distrust and suspicion, as well as a realization that the dynamic may not be as harmonious or genuine as initially perceived. The contrasting emotions of happiness and unhappiness are intertwined throughout the lyrics, portraying a complex and tumultuous emotional landscape. Overall, the song "Jungle" delves into themes of self-discovery, emotional conflict, and the complexities of relationships, offering a reflective and introspective look at the inner struggles of the singers.
