Grant Woolard I don’t really know about this one, but I know he also despised his 1812 Overture because he just “sloppily” arranged some Russian folk tunes, he didn’t like “excessive patriotism,” and it was a commissioned work, which he resented.

I don't know why people have so much false knowledge on Tchaikovsky's own opinion of his ballets. Firstly, Tchaikovsky was really happy with his Sleeping Beauty score, stating it being some of the best music ever to have written. Secondly, when Tchaikovsky was commissioned to write The Nutcracker, he wasn't sure about how the story would fit into a ballet. While composing the music he started liking it more than at the beginning, stating that it would turn out to be better than the opera "Iolanta" he was working on simultaneously. Tchaikovsky was getting old and tired, and the proofreading and writing the whole arrangement of the ballet for piano solo got him to develop a big hatred towards the score. So I think there's a lot more to understand about Tchaikovsky than what we're really capable of.

I am 63 years old now, knock on wood!! I played this particular piece in high school on state level. My friend at the time, accompanied me on the piano. I won first place in the state competition at age 16!! I practiced for hours everyday because I so enjoyed it. ❤😊

Yeah! We're doing the Nutcracker (as a song!) for our Winter concert, and all of the themes (would "themes" be the word?) are combined into this song. This is by far, my favorite "theme" that we sing!

this was legit the dopest song to play in 9th grade. It was the only song I /loved/ during the Christmas concert, and the only song I memorized as well. Come Christmas concert day, I didn't get to play the xylophone. I had to switch to the bells because the guy who played it was absent, and the song only had 3 measures to play for the bells 😩 I was sO pissed off

True story: I had a piano that had this as a sampled song built into it, and as my dad was watching King Kong (2005 version), the main melody kicked in as Kong was falling off of the empire state building. Great. The The Nutcracker Suite is one of my favorite classical pieces. Amazingly, Tchaikovsky himself did not like it much, probably because its melodies are quite catchy, but I think thats the beauty on it. It is kind of comertial classical music :) No offense to anyone here, I love this piece

I really dont want to step on any toes here, but why do people get so worked up over classical music? I mean, yes it's absolutely genius and great to listen to every now and then, but is it really worth having long battles over on Youtube? @MegaCupCake1 The nutcracker is originally a russian short story. A theatre director commisioned Tchaikovsky to write a ballet based on such story, and Tchaikovsky took the job, but he was not particularly inspired for it. At the end, he considered one of his least favorite pieces from his repartoire. Ironically, it turned out to be one of his most famous compositions (and one of the most beautiful classical pieces in my opinion)
