There have been at least two bands named The Avalanches:
1. An Australian electronic music collective
2. A defunct American surf rock group
NOTE: The former band actually got their name from the latter, as The Avalanches' " Ski Surfin''" album was known to be their favorite album.

1. The Avalanches are an electronic music collective from Melbourne, Australia. They are well known for their use of eclectic sampling, having created their debut album, Since I Left You (2000), entirely out of over 3,500 samples of obscure records, movies, and television shows. This is famously demonstrated on their hit single "Frontier Psychiatrist".
Before this, they were a hip-hop group with the single album Rock City and the EPy El Producto. After a 16 year hiatus, they released their sophomore album Wildflower (2016), which was followed by We Will Always Love You (2020).
2. The Avalanches was an instrumental surf rock studio group, active in the 1960s, which included Billy Strange, Tommy Tedesco, David Gates (later of Bread) and Hal Blaine. In 1963 they recorded an LP Ski Surfin', which was re-released in 2007.

Not surprisingly the Avalanches have a LOT of technical and legal issues to go through in creating such a masterpiece. All the various samples have to be approved by numerous officials, relatives of artists, etc., just to get permission to publish. They do that for us. Thank you, Avalanche.

@little ghost Thank you for that explanation. I am not entirely familiar with copyright law but I get what you're saying. Still, as you have rightfully noted artists too do require nourishment. So they must sell their production. Permissions are required. Thanks again, stay safe, take care.

well, not quite lol. using unauthorized samples is completely legal as long as you don’t attempt to profit off of the final product, or use it for commercial purposes. so the sample clearing is really for the sake of their pocket book. they legally could have distributed their music (freely) from day one.
but hey, artists need to eat too. i’m glad they were able to get clearance on everything and make some money on what is clearly a labor of love and a huge technical undertaking
