You And Me
The Beatles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Da da da, da da dumb dumb da
Da da da, da da dumb dumb da
If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love, from me to you

I've got everything that you want
Like a heart that's oh so true
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love, from me to you

I've got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side
I've got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied (oh)

If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love, from me to you

From me
To you
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love, from me to you

I've got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side
I've got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied (oh)

If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love, from me to you
To you

Overall Meaning

The Beatles’ song You and Me is a sweet love song about a man who is willing to do anything for the woman he loves. He promises to provide whatever she needs and wants, and he will do it with love. He even goes on to describe his physical attributes - arms that long to hold her and lips that long to kiss her. It is a simple yet powerful statement of devotion.

The use of repetition in the chorus gives the song a sing-along quality, making it easy for listeners to remember the lyrics and sing along. The “da da da, da da dumb dumb da” melody is catchy and makes the song instantly recognizable. The lyrics capture the essence of a pure and selfless love that is willing to sacrifice and give all that it has.

This song was actually written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney for another Liverpool band named “The Fourmost”, but The Beatles ended up recording it themselves. It was released as the b-side to their hit single “She Loves You” in 1963. You and Me was also included on their second album, “With the Beatles” which was released in the UK in the same year.
