From New Orleans, they were classically trained and switched over to jazz as they grew up along with the form. First recorded in 1925, they went on to play vaudeville and ended up on radio in California. After being heard coast to coast on one of the first nationwide radio hookups, they became stars of radio in NYC headlining both their own programs, as well as working on shows with Bing Crosby and The Mills Brothers until the trio disbanded in 1936, mainly due to their marriages. They also appeared in many films of the time. (See youtube)
Connie Boswell, who later changed the spelling of her name to Connee, continued as a solo singer after the demise of the group, influencing singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. She did all this despite being unable to walk alone due to childhood polio and other back injuries.
"There is only one person I ever tried to sing like and that person was Connee Boswell."
Ella Fitzgerald, NBC News interview
"Connee Boswell is, without a doubt, the most widely imitated singer of all time."
Frank Sinatra

I Found a Million Dollar Baby
The Boswell Sisters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It was the most convenient door
I found a million dollar baby
In a five and ten cent store.
The rain continued for an hour.
I hung around for three or four.
Around a million dollar baby
In a five and ten cent store.
And when she made those eyes,
I kept buying china
Until the crowd got wise.
Incidentally
If you should run into a shower,
Just step inside my cottage door,
And meet the million-dollar baby
From the five and ten cent store.
Love comes along like a popular song
Any time or anywhere at all.
Rain or sunshine
Spring or fall.
Say, you'll never know when it may say hello
In a very unexpected place.
For example, take my case.
She was selling china
And when she made those eyes
I kept buying china
until the crowd got wise.
Incidentally
If you should run into a shower
Oh, step inside my cottage door
And meet my million-dollar baby
From the five and ten cent store.
The Boswell Sisters' "I Found a Million Dollar Baby" is a sweet, romantic song that describes the unexpected event of finding true love. The song starts off by likening the discovery of love to a lucky April shower and finding the most convenient door. The singer then sings about finding a million-dollar baby, a term used to describe someone who is the epitome of perfection, in a five and ten cent store. The rain continues as she hangs around this "baby," admiring and cherishing every moment spent with her.
The singer continues to describe how this baby was selling china when they made eye contact, and from that moment, the singer could not stop buying china until the crowd realized. The song then goes on to urge anyone who might find themselves in a random shower to step into their "cottage door" and meet this million-dollar baby.
The song's lyrics can be seen as a metaphor for how love can come unexpectedly and in the most unlikely places. It also highlights how sometimes love is not about status, wealth or appearance, but rather finding someone who is perfect for you. The singer's fascination with the "baby" symbolizes how love can captivate and inspire us in ways that we cannot decide or choose.

These ladies are the precursor to The Andrews Sisters - in fact Patty Maxine & Lavern said any number of times that these were the people they learned their harmonies from. Harry Warren wrote this song along with ton of others. The son of Italian immigrants who had the ear. Wound up in Pasadena CA. Such a contribution to the American songbook.
