From New Orleans, they were classically trained and switched over to jazz as they grew up along with the form. First recorded in 1925, they went on to play vaudeville and ended up on radio in California. After being heard coast to coast on one of the first nationwide radio hookups, they became stars of radio in NYC headlining both their own programs, as well as working on shows with Bing Crosby and The Mills Brothers until the trio disbanded in 1936, mainly due to their marriages. They also appeared in many films of the time. (See youtube)
Connie Boswell, who later changed the spelling of her name to Connee, continued as a solo singer after the demise of the group, influencing singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. She did all this despite being unable to walk alone due to childhood polio and other back injuries.
"There is only one person I ever tried to sing like and that person was Connee Boswell."
Ella Fitzgerald, NBC News interview
"Connee Boswell is, without a doubt, the most widely imitated singer of all time."
Frank Sinatra

My Future Just Passed
The Boswell Sisters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There goes the girl I'll now be a fool about
Ring down the curtain, I'm certain at present
My future just passed.
Don't even know if she has been spoken for.
If she is tied, the ties must be broken, for
Life can't be that way,to wake me then break me
Stars in the blue, tho' you're at a distance
You can at least do this,
Sometimes a boy encounters resistance
Help me to win this miss.
Here are my arms, may she find illusion there.
Look in my heart, there is no confusion there
Now that I'm loving, I'm living at last,
My future just passed
The lyrics to The Boswell Sisters’ song, “My Future Just Passed”, convey the singer's longing for a girl he has been dreaming about since his school days. He knows that she may already be in a relationship, but he is willing to break those ties to be with her. The singer is desperate and has finally found something worth living for in her. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and now that he has the opportunity to be with the girl, he is willing to do whatever it takes to win her heart.
The song mentions “stars in the blue”, which may represent the idea of fate. The singer believes that destiny has brought him to this moment, where he has finally found love. He pleads with the stars to help him win the girl's heart. The lyrics' tone is reflective of the 1930s era jazz music that The Boswell Sisters were known for - rollicking and upbeat with a touch of sadness. However, despite the melancholic tone, the song is quite optimistic and even joyful at times, highlighting the hope that the singer has for the future.
Overall, the lyrics to "My Future Just Passed" convey a story of both longing and optimism, as the singer finally finds something to live for in the girl he has been dreaming of for so long.
