Song Of Surrender
The Boswell Sisters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hear the treetops sigh
Hear the wind come whispering by
It's the song of surrender
Kisses waiting, warm and shy

Hear the lonely stream
Murmur low, come live your dream
Hear the song of surrender
How can we resist it's theme

For love seems to glow in the night
Why don't we follow its light
Know in your heart that it's right
To love, take my love

Take my love to hold
Till the stars wither and grow old
Hear the night calling near us
Oh, be fearless, oh, be free
Hear the song of surrender and come to me

(Take my love to hold)
(Till the stars wither and grow old)
Hear the night calling near us

Oh, be fearless, oh, be free
Hear the song of surrender and come to me

Overall Meaning

The Boswell Sisters' Song Of Surrender is a romantic ballad that entreats the listener to let go and embrace love. The lyrics present an idyllic and dreamy atmosphere, encapsulated by the serene sounds of the stream and the treetops. The gentle whisperings of the wind create an enrapturing space that sets the tone of the song. The song's chorus is a call to let go of the heart's defenses, surrender to love, and follow the light of love that illuminates the night. The singer appeals to her listener to make her love his own and take her hand, offering a safe haven until the stars grow old.

The song of surrender has an introspective tone, asking the listener to examine whether their loneliness is worth resisting the sweet surrender of love that appears to be waiting. The stream singing to the dreamer, the treetops sighing in agreement, and the night calling the beloved close is a symphony of nature that symbolizes the welcoming of love into one's life.

Overall, Song Of Surrender is an invitation to open oneself up to the possibility of love, urging the listener to follow the gentle hum of the universe, guide one towards the warmth of another's embrace.

I'm fascinated how the early childhood photo of the Boswell Sisters is used again at the end. The storyboard, blends well with the beautiful song. The Boswells , especially Connee, is my second favorite singer, of this era.
