The Browns Lyrics

(He's the bubblegum bandit)
He stands knee high tall with the western draw he got fun watchin' TV
He rides a broomstick horse and has an endless source
Of slyin' little tricks off his sleeve
He's the bubblegum (bubblegum bubblegum) bubblegum bandit (bubblegum bandit)
When the little girls kiss him he can't stand it
Ah he's a rootin' tootin' candy lootin' quick on the draw capgun shootin'
He's the bubblegum bandit

He's got pocket full of trash and a little milk mustache freckles on a dirty face
He leaves toys on the floor and on the walls and doors
He leaves little fingerprint traces
He's the bubblegum (bubblegum bubblegum)

(He's the bubblegum bandit)
He's got rooses and scratches little britches with patches boots with spurs so shiny
And it stick 'em up Mack put the loot in the sack in a voice so tough and whiny

He's the bubblegum (bubblegum bubblegum)
Bandit he's the bubblegum bandit

A note of thanks to all 19 of you who made these nice comments.  The Bandit is one of The Browns favorites.  I have read each one & appreciate it very much.  (Maxine Brown)

A wonderful song!!!!

ronsandford

delightful! I didn't know this version of O'Cangaceiro existed, but I love it. Smoother than Tex Ritter's interpretation. An absolute delight and has renewed my acquaintance with The Browns

This song is based on the original song 'Olê Mulher Rendeira' writen by Virgolino Ferreira da Silva, nicknamed 'Lampião' the King of Cangaço, the most feared bandit/hero of Brazil. For 30 years The Cangaceiro Lampião and his band roamed the 'Nordeste' northeast part of Brazil and fought the 'Volantes' a police force always on the move searching for the legendary outlaw. Lampião had a wife called Maria Bonita (beautiful Mary). The couple had only one daughter who is still alive in Brazil. The nickname Lampião (a type of kerosene lamp very common in the turning of the century) was given to Virgulino because he fired his rifle so fast, that at night it seemed like a flame. Lampião is the most hated/loved historical figure in Brazil and he is a symbol of the brave, strong men of the Brazilian Northeast, known for being feared in combat.

I appreciate all the comments you have made regarding this great rendition of The Bandit. It was Chet Atkins all time favorite song.  He overdubbed with a horn section, but when time came to do the mix, the horn section had been erased by mistake by one of the engineers.  He went ahead & released it with the violin section but very reluctantly.  (Maxine)

Don Hawkins
