Manumission
The Color Morale Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The shadow I cast only grows, largest just right before.
It meets me, unwilling at the floor.
The Color Morale's song "Manumission" explores the idea of being trapped and held back by the battles that we face in our lives. The opening lines, "These wars, we face only keep me in my place," suggest that the singer feels stuck, unable to move forward because of the difficulties they are encountering. The use of the word "wars" implies that these struggles are ongoing and difficult, perhaps even larger than the individual.
The following lines, "The shadow I cast only grows, largest just right before. It meets me, unwilling at the floor," speak to the weight of these struggles on the singer. The "shadow" here represents the darkness that can come with difficult times, casting a large and foreboding presence. The use of "unwilling" suggests that the singer is hesitant to face this shadow and what it represents.
Overall, the lyrics of "Manumission" feel like a cry for help, a plea to be released from the burden of these struggles. The imagery used suggests a feeling of suffocation and being boxed in, with no clear way out. However, there is a glimmer of hope in the fact that the singer is able to articulate these emotions, perhaps indicating that they are beginning to take steps toward releasing themselves from this struggle.

I know this is late, but a deathcore band called a thousand times repent have a song called "that was the night everything changed" and near the end of the song is very atmospheric

Wish i knew but I get where you're coming from. A little saddening that there isn't many bands today replicating early the color morale's atmospheric tones. Used to listen to these guys a whole lot almost a decade ago. What a nostalgia trip.... sigh....

It's such a beautiful song. The first picks in the first 10 to 20 seconds or so. By themselves are just gorgeous.
