Flash
The Crash Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I heard your song on the radio
Who am I to resist heroes?
Saw your show in the neon lights' glow
Who am I to escape your soul control?
May your love be untrue,
Flash!
You rule the world with the rhythms of the night
Who am I to resist your time
Forevermore we'll remember the name of a boy without shame
It's you, it's you, it's why-why-you Flash
Flash!
Flash, sing me to the stars
Hey Flash, sing me to the stars
Flash, sing me to the stars
Hey Flash, sing me to the stars
Flash! Flash! Flash!
The Crash's song "Flash" is all about the hypnotic power that music and musicians can have over their fans. The opening lines of the song, "I heard your song on the radio / Who am I to resist heroes?" express the idea that music can create heroes out of the musicians who perform it. The singer of the song has been pulled in by the music and the persona of the performer, as witnessed by the lines, "Saw your show in the neon lights' glow / Who am I to escape your soul control?" The power of the music and the performer is so strong that the singer is willing to do anything for them even if their love is untrue as indicated by the line "There's nothing I would not do for you."
In the chorus, the song speaks directly to the musician, "You rule the world with the rhythms of the night / Forevermore, we'll remember the name of a boy without shame / It's you, it's you, it's why-why-you Flash". This section of the song highlights the musician's role as an entertainer and the impact they have on their listeners, who will always remember them long after they have left the stage. The final lines of the song, "Flash, sing me to the stars / Hey Flash, sing me to the stars," underscore the idea of music's transformative power to take the listener to a completely different realm, effortlessly and instantaneously.
Overall, the song is an engaging tribute to the magic of music and its ability to captivate and transform the listener. The Crash's Flash brilliantly captures the essence of escapism and the captivating power of music.
