She is known for her ability to move between genres and musical styling, acting as both singer and poet in a way that was not deemed commercially viable until her arrival.
Natalie is co-founder of seven times Grammy nominated Floetry along with former band-mate Marsha Ambrosius. Floetry was an instant commercial success, spawning two studio albums, one live album, and selling over 800,000 records worldwide. As soon as fans became used to the duo - they broke up due to reasons never really divulged publicly.
The split with Floetry led to a marked change in both their sounds - but has led to rave reviews for their solo productions.
After the 2007 split of R&B duo Floetry, spoken word artist and whisper-voiced vocalist Natalie Stewart -- aka the Floacist -- made a handful of guest appearances on recordings by other musicians, including Brian Culbertson's XII. She signed as a solo artist to the Shanachie label, which released her debut album, Floetic Soul, in November 2010. Dominated by seductive ballads featuring Stewart’s trademark breathy whispers, she benefited from collaborations with Musiq Soulchild, Raheem DeVaughn, and Lalah Hathaway, along with production input from J.R. Hutson, Know-I, and Chris "Big Dog" Davis. It scraped the Billboard 200 with a debut at number 195 and reached the Top 20 of the R&B albums chart. Almost exactly two years later, she released Floetry Re:Birth -- produced by her husband, Nolan Weekes -- for the same label. It topped out at number 51, R&B. Supported once again by Davis, among others, Stewart returned with Rise of the Phoenix Mermaid in March 2014. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

Why are you afraid what you gonna do?
Scared that you may change, isn't that the truth?
Who are you to say? You're not gonna win
How'd you ever know if you just give in?
Tell me how will you know? How will you know?
If you just give in, tell me how you'll grow?
Stand up, you better stand up, come on, every time you fall down
You can stand tall, come on, come on, yeah
Believe in yourself or who's gonna?
If you never dream for yourself then who's gonna?
How you gonna do for yourself, how you gonna ?
You know you have to prove it to yourself so you're gotta
Gotta make a change rearrange if you wanna
Make it to the top is a short day you got it
Is a spotlight all for you but to bring it
Bring an A game 18 cause you want it, stand up
Stand up, come on
What you gonna do, what you gonna do?
You'll just have to choose, choose, where you wanna go, where you wanna go?
What is there to loose, yeah
How you gonna move, how you gonna move?
If you won't stay, stay, how you gonna flow? If you're in your way
Tell me, why do you delay? Why do you delay?
And what you got to say? Say
It's gonna be ok, stand up, you better stand up, come on now, every time you fall down
Stand up, stand up, even if you're small, even if you're small
You can stand tall, I'm feeling you
Believe in yourself or who's gonna?
If you never dream for yourself then who's gonna?
How you gonna do for yourself, how you gonna ?
You know you have to prove it to yourself so you're gotta
Gotta make a change rearrange if you wanna
To the top is a short day you got it
Spotlight all for you gotta bring it
Bring your A game 18 if you want it,
Believe in yourself or who's gonna?
If you never dream for yourself then who's gonna?
How you gonna do for yourself, how you gonna ?
You know you have to prove it to yourself so you're gotta
Change rearrange if you want it
To the top is a short day if you got it
Spotlight all for you gotta bring it
A game 18 if you want it.
Stand up, come on, stand up.
The Stand by The Floacist is a motivational song that encourages individuals to stand up for themselves, believe in themselves, and pursue their dreams. The lyrics convey the message that change and growth cannot be achieved if one is afraid to take a chance and there is a need to trust oneself and take action. The opening lines of the song “Why are you afraid what you gonna do? Scared that you may change, isn't that the truth?" suggest that fear is often the biggest obstacle to personal growth and that one must overcome it to progress in life. The lyrics go on to urge the listener to believe in themselves, make a change, and pursue their dreams.
The song repeatedly emphasizes the need to "stand up" and take action, even in the face of adversity or setbacks. The repeated use of the phrase "stand up" creates a sense of urgency and empowers the listener to take control of their life. The lyrics suggest that it is the responsibility of each individual to pursue their dreams, "Believe in yourself or who's gonna? If you never dream for yourself then who's gonna?"
Overall, The Stand is a powerful message about self-improvement and self-belief. The Floacist's soulful voice and rhythmic beats make this motivational song even more inspiring and energizing.

"THE DEFINITION OF NEO-SOUL"
Neo-Soul is a timeless musical genre that fuses real instrumental, Jazz, contemporary R&B and 1970s-style soul, funk, and rock with some elements of hip-hop. As it's name (new soul) implies, Neo-Soul music is essentially modern-day soul music, with contemporary attitudes and sensibilities. It differs from contemporary R&B in that it's organic and obviously more soulful, and it also tends to have deeper messages and meanings than R&B.

It's so strange how i skip over some tracks or completely tune out to what's being said when first listening to an album, then pull it out a year or 2 later and listen again, and it ends up being EVERYTHING you need at the moment. i was waiting for my train trying not to cry listening to this the other day. Thank you for the message Miss Floacist, or better yet, the reminder. Stand.
