Lou Barlow formed The Folk Implosion with John Davis in the 1990s as a way to explore different kinds of music that his other band Sebadoh did not normally play. "The Lou Barlow Folk Implosion," as it is sometimes called, took its name as a tribute to the band The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Another incarnation of this band went under the name Deluxx Folk Implosion, which featured Bob Fay, who worked with Lou Barlow in Sebadoh, on drums.
Folk Implosion briefly stepped to the forefront of the alternative rock scene with their song Natural One which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Kids (Kids) and received strong airplay on alternative rock format radio stations.

You gave me all I could want to turn my heart to stone
Ooo..
I don't want to be someone you love
I save you all I could find to find myself with you
Couldn't see you never believed, you never listened to me,
Ooo..
I don't want to be someone you love
Ooo..
I'd be happy without you
Dropping doubts from the clouds up above
The lyrics of The Folk Implosion's Someone You Love showcase a conflicted perspective towards a past lover. The first two lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, as the singer acknowledges that their relationship with their ex-partner was detrimental to their personal growth. The lyrics "You gave me something I need to leave alone / You gave me all I could want to turn my heart to stone" suggest that the singer's partner may have provided them with comfort and convenience but led to the singer feeling emotionally numb and isolated.
The subsequent lyrics reveal the complexity of the relationship, emphasizing that despite the singer's reservations about their ex-partner, they still hold a strong emotional attachment to them. The chorus "Ooo.. I don't want to be someone you love / Ooo.. I'd be happy without you" highlights the singer's internal struggle between wanting to leave their ex-partner and fearing the loneliness and uncertainty of life without them.
The final line "Dropping doubts from the clouds up above" evokes a sense of hopefulness and liberation, as the singer does not want to be held back by their doubts and emotional baggage any longer. Ultimately, the song speaks to anyone who has had conflicting feelings towards an ex-partner and the struggle of letting go and moving on from a toxic relationship.

I bought this CD in 1998 in the U.S. and is still a classic and echoes why the 90's were just a brilliant decade for music.
