The Honorary Title was a rock band from Brooklyn, New York composed of Jarrod Gorbel, Aaron Kamstra, Jon Wiley, and Adam Boyd. Gorbel became known for his dark sense of humor, which often worked its way into the band's songs.
Their first release was a self-titled EP. They received much attention and did major touring after they released a full length album on Doghouse Records in 2004 entitled, "Anything Else But the Truth". The album was recorded in Nashville and New York with producer Roger Moutenot who has also worked with Yo La Tengo and Guster. Videos are available for the singles "Everything I Once Had", "Bridge and Tunnel", & "Frame by Frame".
On October 24, 2009 Jarrod announced that The Honorary Title would play their final show on Friday, November 20, 2009. Gorbel released a solo EP called Ten Years Older on his 2010 acoustic tour with Dustin Dobernig. In an interview with weworemasks.com, Gorbel says, "It’s considered a solo session, but…The Honorary Title might be over." He also said he is working on a solo LP. He continues to record and play music, but under his name.

Or am I the only one?
Every time I try to speak to you
Those are the thoughts that run
Say something else, girl
I don't want to have to leave
Our communication is hardly what it used to be
When can I claim you to be my own, my only?
Want nothing more than our futures to collide
Can tell this is going to be one of many disappointing nights
Traces of you are so minimal
A black and white ?? photobook with us
When can I claim you to be my own, so selfishly?
When can I claim you to be my own, my only?
And I have only one week to make you mine
And I may never see you again
It's not only for me, it's not only me
There's a little bit, a little bit here for you
But I'm willing to wait
I'm willing to wait
Day time is no longer the hours spent
Lit by sunlight ?? the hours to obsess
And the night is far worse
'Cause I know you're alone with her
And thoughts of, of us have been deserted
It'll never be the same
I'll never be the same again
I'll never be the same again
I have only one week to make you mine
And I may never see you again
Time is few and far between
There is someone else who needs
There is someone else who needs your attention
But I'm willing to wait
I'm willing to wait
I'm willing to wait
I'm willing to wait
The Honorary Title’s “Only One Week” is a love song depicting the turmoil of unrequited love. The opening line, “Have your lips graced another’s yet or am I the only one?” shows the singer questioning whether the person they love is involved with someone else or not. Throughout the song, it's apparent that the singer is tormented by the lack of communication between them and the person they love: “Say something else, girl, I don’t want to have to leave, Our communication is hardly what it used to be.” This lack of communication intensifies their feelings of anxiety as they wait for the moment when they can be together.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses their desire to be with the person they love and to have a future together. The lyrics “Want nothing more than our futures to collide, Can tell this is going to be one of many disappointing nights” highlight their desire to be together and the challenges they face. The line, “And I have only one week to make you mine, And I may never see you again” shows the urgency and desperation that the singer feels to be with the object of their affection. Despite the challenges, the singer is willing to wait for the person they love: “I’m willing to wait.”
