1) "The Kaleidoscope" was a Japanese Pop/Rock band active from 1998-2004 consisting of Hideo Kojima (drums), Takumi Ishida (vocal&guitar) and Toshino Tanabe (bass).
During their career, they released 3 albums (Prototype, The Kaleidoscope, ペンギンたちの夢) and one best of compilation (street days).
Their song fish was featured as the ending song in the anime One Piece from episode 95-106.

Great list overall; especially End of The Night by The Doors. I would have chosen See Emily Play, but this is Your list, and it’s spot on. Section 43 & Eastern Jam by Country Joe & The Fish deserve honorable mention as well as Bruce Palmer’s only solo album, The Cycle Is Complete!

A song that is forever timeless w/ bold transitions that only appear in Near-Eastern music. My life was forever changed hearing them perform a 22 minute version of Taxim Live at the Kaleidoscope club in Hollywood in 68’ and later hearing David Lindley play a North Indian raga Solo on Banjo!? He opened their second set w/ him alone jamming like a man possessed yet his face was sublimely calm! Unforgettable moments we may sadly not see again. Where were all the indie cameramen back then who might have chronicled all these iconic fringe bands?!

when i was nine or ten, i found a tape of my father with songs from kaleidoscope and other bands of that time.every night i lyed on my bed and was listening to the songs.this was my favorite.it reminded of something weird like beeing inside a kaleidoscope or a crystal ball or travelling on ship...thank you very much for uploading this.:)

too advanced for their time I guess. We can't say that our generation it's the only one that doesn't appreciate talent. The only difference is that back then, some talented guys still managed to have success and nowadays any dumb that sings like a woman or has a Mac that makes some noise has its 15 minutes of fame. The point is that these guys had a lot of talent, perhaps much more than what was intended at the time, don't you think?

He also played the saz on Taxim standing on One Leg WAY Before Ian Anderson started copying him! But for Sol, it was No Gimmick; the crooked leg helped stabilize the saz, and only every few minutes would he gracefully extend his leg to avoid any cramping: amazing zen-like focus like the Sufi whirling dervishes who never get dizzy.

Sounds Turkish because of the instrument bağlama (saz). Member Solomon Feldthouse lived in Turkey during his childhood, so that's where the influences came from.

i listened to this song when it came out in '67,i was 21 in Santa Barbara;they were popular in California then!Im Greek so responded to the greek melody&loved the words, wind chimes & ocean sounds(I was living near the ocean then--still am,diffrnt place).I dont know the UK band but the background of the Ca.band was interesting,they played in other bands. How can I not know what you said is true about Oh, Death. It's better than any of the original versions done by black singers from the south; maybe not quite as authentic, but still better. There is just nobody out there who did what Kaleidoscope did or who did a song better. Only Clarence Ashley's Cuckoo Bird, but you can't compare the two anyway.

This may be the best song they've done with the exception of....Seven-Ate Sweet. You said you take requests. I would like to see that on YouTube more than any other piece of music ever made. The best, most creative rock tune made. It is based on an old Greek dance melody.

No, this is not expanding on anything or being in a different way. It is pure commercialism and a mockery of the culture which produces black artists like Little Richard. Pat Boone's version of those song come from nowhere. There's no culture represented any of Pat Boone's copies. It's an attempt to say that mainstream or middle of the road music that cannot possibly offend anyone's senses is an answer to the challenge that is implicit in Little Richard's music. That it comes from the soul.
