Mirror mirror
It's me again
Been under the weather
But for love again
When will I learn
I am not meant for the game
The game yeah
Nifanye nini wasiniumize tena
Mwili nipunguze ama niongeze
Rangi niongeze Sauti inyenyekee
Ama hii roho niikate
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Can I change it up boy
Would I
Should I change it up
My hearts been breaking
My facing breaking out too
Like am in a coma
But everyone's life is moving on
Nifanye nini wasiniumize tena
Mwili nipunguze ama niongeze
Rangi niongeze Sauti inyenyekee
Ama hii Roho niikate
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Nifanye nini unipende
Can I change it up boy

Would I
Should I change it up

Overall Meaning

The Music's song "The Mirror" is a reflective and introspective piece that describes the struggles of self-improvement and the need for change. The lyrics are a plea for someone to think about the singer and to recognize the need for a turnaround. The singer acknowledges the need for change and a desire to make things better but expresses frustration with their current state of being. They recognize their faults and lack of rights while also acknowledging the need to hold themselves to a higher standard. The line "We subjugate ourselves" conveys a sense of feeling controlled by external forces but also aware of one's own complicity in the situation.

The repetition of the phrase "In the mirror" emphasizes the constant self-examination and reflection necessary to make progress. The singer is searching for common sense and worrying about the same old things, indicating a feeling of being stuck in a cycle of behavior that they want to break free from. The repetition of "Close enough" at the end of the song, with its descending chord progression, creates a sense of resignation and acceptance that, while progress may not be perfect or complete, it is still worth pursuing.

Overall, "The Mirror" is a thoughtful and evocative song that speaks to the need for personal growth and change, acknowledging the struggles and challenges of that process while also emphasizing its importance and value.

When she does that double jazz turn at 6:06... and she slows down the second revolution so she can step out exactly on the musical accent. Stunning.

I literally gasped when I saw that, as flawless as if it had been edited on film, frame by frame.

Her timing accenting the music in this piece is just impeccable.

I danced professionally for 15 years, saw McKechnie perform Cassie on ACL's National Tour in 1986, and I can say with some authority that Charlotte D'Amboise is NOT sloppy here, has a unique and fervent accent to her execution of the steps -- always musical but somewhat more muscular than Donna, who is the only dancer I've ever seen who looked like she was literally gliding and floating along the ground as she moved. Never seen anything like her since and never will! Charlotte is living this role and showing us every inch of her soul in the process, and I love it as much as I did seeing Donna perform live (the memory of which still leaves me totally thrilled -- I guess there's really no need to compare, as Donna is in a class by herself).

Dancer here of 30+ years. Hands DOWN better than Donna. All the way around, sorry!!!

I never quite understood this song until I saw Charlotte's interpretation. Her singing is sometimes slightly off, but her dancing... wow! The music feels like it's coming from her, not something she's dancing to.

Really love her Cassie. That "god!" at 4:09 was so well done. What others see as "sloppiness" I see as an easy gracefulness and elegance befitting where Cassie is at in her journey. In fact, it takes me out of the performance when the dancing is too "prim and proper" or technically perfect where it seems like the actress is just trying to hit all her marks. Charlotte d'Amboise puts so much passion and gravitas in Cassie it's absolutely breathtaking to watch.
