In 2001 the song Take the Long Road and Walk It circulated as a demo, before being released by Fierce Panda. The band were quickly signed by EMI/Virgin imprint, Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.
In 2002, following another EP, The People, they released their eponymous debut album.
In Autumn 2004, they released their second album, Welcome to the North, and the accompanying single Freedom Fighters, before touring with Incubus. One of the singles from the album, Breakin', became a hit on American rock radio.
Their eagerly awaited third album entitled Strength in Numbers was released in June 2008. However, in September 2010, singer/songwriter Robert Harvey confirmed the group's intention to split, and on 31 March 2011 the band announced a series of farewell shows in Japan and the UK.

Turn Out The Lights
The Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Turn out the light
Tell me a story
Does it feel right
We all hate our own lives
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
How does it feel
When I'm not there
Does it feel right
If he doesn't care
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
You owe me girl
What you are given
Now his time is up
Used to see
Watch this love fall down
Do you feel it
Well his time is up
You to see
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Turn out the light
Tell me a story
Does it feel right
We all hate our own lives
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah
Give it away [Repeat: x7]
Give it away yeah yeah yeah yeah
Give it away yeah
The Music's song Turn Out the Lights clearly depicts the struggle of an individual who is dealing with loneliness and heartbreak. The lyrics are an expression of the desire to escape reality and leave behind the pain and hurt. The opening lines of the song, “Turn out the light, tell me a story,” reflect the singer's attempt to distract themselves from their own situation. They seek a temporary respite and long to be lost in a world of someone else's imagination.
The line, "we all hate our own lives," highlights the loneliness and hopelessness of the singer’s situation. It can be interpreted as an existential crisis expressed through both anger and disappointment. The chorus of the song, "Baby baby baby baby ba ba ba yeah," is a repetition of the singer's desperate plea for help and love, which is left unanswered.
The second verse of the song suggests that the singer’s partner has left them for another person. The line "now his time is up, used to see watch this love fall down" further solidifies this idea. The singer seeks comfort, asking if their absence is felt by their partner, and if their partner's new lover cares for them the way they did. The repetition of the line “give it away” at the end of the song could display the singer’s realization that they have to give away their love and move on from the heartbreak.

Could have swore I read an article where it said this song is the act of making love in a song. Foreplay, chorus clothes get ripped off, near the end is intense and a rush like an orgasm and it trails off as you fall asleep. This band never got their just recognition
@TheDreamLikeStateMusic
i remember an interview from around 2002, rob the singer/writer of the lyrics said he and his girlfriend would switch the lights off and cry their eyes out over stuff that bothered them in the world etc , he didnt direcly say this song was about that but it was implied ..i dont he was that pretentious to claim it was what you read
