The Ozark Mountain Daredevils Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(GUITAR INTO)
I'm going back to Colorado
rollin' down the highway
just my life to carry
it's written in the wind
again

I will drink from the river
that runs down from the mountain
just my life returning
I feel it in the wind
again
(GUITAR SOLO)

aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...
aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...
aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...
aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...
aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...aaaahhhhh...
lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala...
lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala...
lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala...

lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala...
lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala......lalalalala...

Overall Meaning

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils's song "Colorado Song" is a reflective piece of music that speaks to the inherent freedom of life on the road. The singer expresses their desire to return to the state of Colorado, where the mountains and river offer a unique form of spiritual nourishment. The song's opening guitar line sets the stage for this journey, which is carried out in a rolling fashion, with only the singer's life on their back. The idea of being "written in the wind" speaks to the potential of change and unpredictability that comes with such a nomadic lifestyle, but also suggests a sense of surrender to the natural flow of things.

As the song continues, the singer seems to find solace in the act of drinking from the river that flows down from the mountain. This simple yet profound act is a symbol of rebirth and renewal, as well as a way to connect with the land and the source of life itself. The repetition of the phrase "just my life returning" emphasizes the cyclical nature of existence, as well as the idea that life is ultimately what we make of it. Throughout the song, the guitar plays a central role in conveying a sense of longing and nostalgia, while also capturing the joy and freedom of the singer's journey.

Overall, "Colorado Song" is a reflective piece of folk rock that celebrates the beauty of Colorado and the freedom of life on the road. It is a tribute to the limitless possibilities of travel, and a reminder that sometimes the most important journeys are the ones that take us within.

In rural Missouri on a gravel road, long ago, I sit in a recliner staring out the window to the west with this song up and full base and no one around, at dusk when daytime life ebbs to the resolution of night, the chair and floor vibrate and then the angels sing and waves of electricity wash back and forth through my body and I see through watering eyes, I see eternity and I see mortality and I see love and my time is precious and I realize I must let everyone who will listen, know that I love them!

I might suggest he’s seeing at end of life how important the big things are as opposed to how unimportant satisfying our daily needs are considering how we treat people now and in the past. A shift in priorities. Seeing the bigger picture

I lived most of my life in Missouri's Ozark mountains, but I now live in Colorado. I loved this song as a kid. It's so hauntingly beautiful.
It has even more meaning to me now. It's still so relevant, even after all these years.
