Nobody
The Sheepdogs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Searching for something in these same old streets
The thought of leaving never tasted so sweet
Tonight I'm going downtown with all these fools
I got the feeling that I just can't lose
Hey bartender, do you understand?
I need a good woman and a rock and roll band
I got my Mojo down, ones and twos
Always running to keep up with the blues, I'm saying

Nobody is gonna bring me down
Nobody is gonna turn me 'round
No, no, no

Across the desert on a mission tonight
We hit the city limits with the sun in our eyes
We got the James Brown on the radio
I turn it up just as loud as it goes
I got the feeling that I can't be beat
I got a pretty mamma in the passenger seat
She said, "I don't know how you live so fast
But, don't slow down 'cause it might be the last"

Nobody is gonna bring me down
(Nobody)
Nobody is gonna turn me 'round
(Nobody)

Nobody
Is gonna bring me down
Nobody
Is gonna turn me around

Nobody is gonna bring me down

Nobody is gonna turn me 'round
(Nobody, yeah)

Overall Meaning

The Sheepdogs' song "Nobody" is a classic rock / Southern rock tune that speaks of freedom, living fast, and not allowing anyone or anything to get in the way. The singer of the song is on a journey, both literal and metaphorical, searching for something in familiar streets, but with the thought of leaving always on his mind. The first verse portrays his eagerness to let loose and have a good time, going downtown with some "fools" and hoping to find a good woman and rock and roll band. He acknowledges his struggles with the blues but remains confident he can overcome them.

The chorus, which repeats twice, is a powerful declaration of independence and determination. The singer asserts that "nobody is gonna bring me down" and "nobody is gonna turn me 'round." He repeats this phrase with increasing intensity, culminating in an emphatic "no, no, no." This chorus serves as a rallying cry for anyone who feels weighed down by life's challenges, encouraging them to stay strong and keep moving forward.

The second verse continues the theme of the journey, this time taking the singer across the desert with a female companion. He turns up the music and feels invincible, even as the sun blinds him. His passenger acknowledges his fast-paced lifestyle but urges him not to slow down, reminding him that every moment is precious. The song ends with one final repetition of the chorus, driving home the message that no one can hold the singer back.

Overall, "Nobody" is a high-energy, optimistic song that taps into the spirit of rock and roll. It celebrates the freedom to live life on one's own terms and the resilience to keep going despite obstacles. It's a song that can lift anyone's mood and inspire them to keep pushing forward.

I just love the flow of rhythm in this song... really cool yet eased up.

I stumbled on them cos this song played on local radio.
Can anybody maybe tell me how long they are in the country rock business?

And is there a way to get their cd's in Netherlands?
Anyways
I took liberty of figuring out the lyrics and write em down.

I don't always listen to new music, but when I do it sounds like old music. I say this with love and respect. One of the best Canadian bands of the new millennium.

BarneytheVampire

I'm inclined to agree. My acquaintance at my local Metro, a longtime cashier there, turned me onto the Sheepdogs years ago. And I haven't looked back since ....

Sean Meisner

I agree with you. I like some of the modern music, but it seems that the new music I like the most reminds me in some way of some band or style that I grew up listening to.

You boys make Saskatchewan proud! Proud of where I am from and loving The Sheepdogs. Great tunes for out in the fields.

Saw these guys last night in Detroit with The Rival Sons ... they were FANTASTIC! I never heard of these guys before this, but they won the crowd over in pretty quick fashion. For a bunch of northern boys from Canada, they have their southern rock chops down for sure! ... hell they had their chops down no matter where they hale from. Absolutely worth checking out!

Kaegan England

Underrated song, needs way more attention then it has.

Such a POSITIVE Song!

We Sure NEED More Songs that help convey overcoming challenges, especially in these Post COVID-19 Times...
