1. A soul group of the early '70s, creating a body of work that defined the lush, seductive sound of Philly soul. In the UK they were known as "The Detroit Spinners" to avoid confusion with British band The Spinners. The band's roots lay in Detroit, where they formed as a doo wop group during the late '50s. Throughout the '60s, the Spinners tried to land a hit by adapting to the shifting fashions of R&B and pop. By the mid-'60s, they had signed with Motown Records, but the label never gave the group much consideration. "It's a Shame" became a hit in 1970, but the label continued to ignore the group, and dropped the band two years later. Unsigned and featuring new lead singer Phillipe Wynne, the Spinners seemed destined to never break into the big leagues, but they managed to sign with Atlantic Records, where they began working with producer Thom Bell. With his assistance, the Spinners developed a distinctive sound, one that relied on Wynne's falsetto and the group's intricate vocal harmonies. Bell provided the group with an appropriately detailed production, creating a detailed web of horns, strings, backing vocals, and lightly funky rhythms. Between 1972 and 1977, the Spinners and Bell recorded a number of soul classics, including "I'll Be Around," "Could It Be I'm Fallin in Love," "Mighty Love," "Ghetto Child," "Then Came You," "Games People Play," and "The Rubberband Man." Wynne left in 1977 and the Spinners had hits for a few years after his departure, but the group will always be remembered for its classic mid-'70s work. Originally, called the Domingoes, the Spinners formed when the quintet were high school students in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale in 1957. At the time, the group featured Bobbie Smith, Pervis Jackson, George W. Dixon, Billy Henderson, and Henry Fambrough. Four years later, they came to the attention of producer Harvey Fuqua, who began recording the group -- who were now called the Spinners -- for his Tri-Phi Records. The band's first single, "That's What Girls Are Made For," became a Top Ten R&B hit upon its 1961 release and featured Smith on vocals. Following its release, Dixon was replaced by Edgar "Chico" Edwards. Over the next few years, the group released a series of failed singles, and when Tri-Phi was bought out by Motown in the mid-'60s, the Spinners became part of the larger company's roster. By that time, Edwards had been replaced by G.C. Cameron. Though the Spinners had some R&B hits at Motown during the late '60s, including "I'll Always Love You" and "Truly Yours," they didn't have a genuine crossover success until 1970, when Stevie Wonder gave the group "It's a Shame." Motown never concentrated on the Spinners, and they let the group go in 1972. Before the band signed with Atlantic Records, Phillipe Wynne replaced Cameron as the group's lead vocalist. Wynne had previously sung with Catfish and Bootsy Collins. At Atlantic Records, the Spinners worked with producer Thom Bell, who gave the group a lush, seductive sound, complete with sighing strings, a tight rhythm section, sultry horns, and a slight funk underpinning. Wynne quickly emerged as a first-rate soul singer, and the combination of the group's harmonies, Wynne's soaring leads, and Bell's meticulous production made the Spinners the most popular soul group of the '70s. Once the group signed with Atlantic, they became a veritable hit machine, topping the R&B and pop charts with songs like "I'll Be Around," "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love," "One of a Kind (Love Affair)," "Ghetto Child," "Rubberband Man," and "You're Throwing a Good Love Away." Not only were their singles hits, but their albums constantly went gold and charted in the Top 20. Wynne left the band to pursue a solo career in 1977; he was replaced by John Edwards. Though none of Wynne's solo records were big hits, his tours with Parliament-Funkadelic were well-received, as were his solo concerts. In October 1984, he died of a heart attack during a concert in Oakland, CA. The Spinners, meanwhile, had a number of minor hits in the late '70s, highlighted by their disco covers of "Working My Way Back to You" and the medley "Cupid/I've Loved You for a Long Time." During the early '80s, they had several minor hits before fading away from the charts and entering the oldies circuit, reprising their earlier material for 1999's new studio effort At Their Best. Long time founding members Billy Henderson and Pervis Jackson have since deceased.
2. The Spinners were a folk group from Liverpool, England, that formed in September 1958. The group was unusual for its time in having a multiracial membership.
They variously had four albums in the UK Albums Chart between September 1970 and April 1972. One of them, Spinners Live Performance (1971), spent three months in the listing and peaked at No. 14.
The band began as a skiffle group with a mainly American repertoire, until they were prompted by Redd Sullivan, a seaman, to include sea shanties and English folk songs. They started out as the Gin Mill Skiffle Group, which included guitarist Tony Davis and washboard player Mick Groves. The group played the Cavern Club, Liverpool for the first time on Friday 18 January 1957, with the Muskrat Jazz Band and the Liverpool University Jazz Band. They played there on a number of occasions on Friday 24 May; Sunday 26 May; Wednesday 5 June; Wednesday 3 July and Friday 16 August 1957. In September 1958 they became the Spinners. They founded a folk club in Liverpool, the 'Triton Club', but soon were performing in London at places such as 'the Troubadour'. Their first album, Songs Spun in Liverpool, was recorded by Bill Leader from live performances. In 1962 Peter Kennedy of the English Folk Dance & Song Society recorded an album with them called Quayside Songs Old & New. In 1963 Philips Records signed them, and they recorded eight more albums over the next eight years. They signed for EMI Records in the early 1970s.
They became popular by reviving some of the greatest folk music and singing new songs in the same vein. Although sounding like traditional English folk songs, some of their material was in fact composed by Jones, such as "The Ellan Vannin Tragedy" and "The Marco Polo". One of their best known songs, particularly in their native Liverpool, was "In My Liverpool Home", written by Peter McGovern in 1962. Cliff Hall also introduced traditional Jamaican songs to their repertoire. One of their albums was called Not Quite Folk.
They produced over forty albums, and made numerous concerts and TV appearances. In 1970, they were given their own television show on BBC One that ran for seven years. They also had their own show on BBC Radio 2. They retired in 1988, after thirty years together, although they led the community singing at the 1989 FA Cup Final and played some Christmas shows in the early 1990s. Members of the group still perform, although Cliff Hall retired to Australia, where he died in 2008.
Their version of the Ewan MacColl song, "Dirty Old Town", was included in the Terence Davies' 2008 memoir/documentary of Liverpool, Of Time and the City. A biography of the group 'Fried Bread and Brandy-O' (the title of their signature tune) was written by Liverpool journalist David Stuckey (with a foreword by Pete Seeger) to coincide with their 25th anniversary, and published by Robson Books.
In 2009 The Liverpool Barrow Boys from Songs Spun in Liverpool was included in Topic Records 70 year anniversary boxed set Three Score and Ten as track 19 on the 6th CD.

Lyrics:
Hand me down my walkin' cane
Hand me down my hat
Hurry now and don't be late
'Cause we ain't got time to chat
You and me we're goin' out
To catch the latest sound
Guaranteed to blow your mind
So high you won't come down
Hey ya'll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
Oh boy, this dude is outta sight!
Everything he does seems to come out right
Once I went to hear them play
At a club outside of town
I was so surprised
I was hypnotized
By the sound this cat put down
When I saw this short fat guy
Stretch a band between his toes
Hey, I laughed so hard
'Cause the man got down
When he finally reached his goal
Hey ya'll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
Got that rubber band
Up on his toes
And then he wriggled it up
All around his nose
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Playin' all that music, yet keepin' time
Where in the world did he learn that, oh Lord?
Lord, help him get away
Hey ya'll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
Rubberband man, rubberband man
How much of this stuff do he think we can stand?
So much rhythm, grace, and debonair for one man
And then he had the nerve to wiggle his left toe
Went to his knee, got the feelin' in his head, y'all
Oh, come on baby
Hey ya'll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
Rubberband man starts to jam
Moving up and down 'cross the land
Got the people all in his wake
Everything probably seems outta place
Just move it, just move, move, move it, just
Rubberband, rubberband man
Just move it, just move, move, move it, just
Rubberband, rubberband man
Get down, oh, get down low

[Verse 1]
Hand me down my walkin' cane
Hand me down my hat
Hurry now and don't be late
'Cause we ain't got time to chat
You and me, we're goin' out
To catch the latest sound
Guaranteed to blow your mind
So high you won't come down
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Post-Chorus 1]
Oh, this dude is outta sight
Everything he does
Seems to come out right
[Verse 2]
Once I went to hear him play
At a club outside of town
I was so surprised, I was hypnotized
By the sound these cats put down
When I saw this short, fat guy
Stretch a band between his toes
Hey, I laughed so hard
'Cause the man got down
When it finally reached his nose
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Post-Chorus 2]
Got that rubber band, uh
Up on his toes
And then he wriggled it up
All around his nose
[Verse 2]
(Du du du du du du du du)
Guaranteed to blow your mind
(Du du du du du du du du)
Playin' all that music, yet keepin' time
(Du du du du du du du du)
Where in the world did he learn that, oh, Lord
(Du du du du du)
Lord, help him get away
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Bridge]
Choo, choo, choo, choo, choo, uh
Choo, choo, choo, choo, choo, choo
Choo, choo, choo, choo, choo, uh
Rubberband man, rubberband man, uh
(Du du du du du du du du)
Du du du du
(Du du du du du du du du)
Watch him, keep movin', just movin'
Got em groovin' on the corner, it's burnin' up, y'all
(Du du du du du du du du)
Ohooohooohhh
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Verse 3]
Ay, ay, ay, ay
Rubberband man's a doozy
Move so quick, uh, he make me woozy
(Du du du du du du du du)
And then he stopped to show down
He wiggle it up, he wiggle it down, uh
(Du du du du du du du du)
Got speed to move it
Get rubberband off the ground, uh
(Du du du du du du du du)
He lifted it well high
In the sky, y'all
And then he
Du du du du du
Oh, get with it, y'all
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Verse 4]
Choo, choo, choo, choo, choo, uh
Turn it up, turn it up
Choo, choo, choo, choo, choo, uh
Rubberband man, rubberband man, uh
(Du du du du du du du du)
How much of this stuff do he think we can stand, uh, huh?
(Du du du du du du du du)
So much rhythm, grace, and debonair for one man, Lord
(Du du du du du du du du)
And then he had the nerve to twiggle his left toe
Slip it through his knee, got the feeling in his head, y'all
(Du du du du du)
Aw, come on, baby
[Chorus]
Hey, y'all, prepare yourself (won't you prepare yourself, hear me) for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound (never heard a sound)
Like the rubberband man (Aw, he's the man)
You're bound to lose control (and he likes to jam)
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Post-Chorus 3]
Rubberband man starts to jam
Moving up and down cross the land
Got the people all in his wake
Everything probably seems outta place

Like the rubberband man (never felt the groove)
You're bound to lose control (take a seat and move)
When the rubberband starts to jam
[Verse 5]

Just groovin' up loudly
Gotta move, I gotta groove

The way he twiddles his toes with the band [?]
[Chorus]

When the rubberband starts to jam
[Outro]

(Du du du du du du du du)
A-twang, a-twang, a-twang, a-twang

@emperorbooglitch8540
Now this, this is a great song, and I loved it the second I heard it on the movie scene. There's just one issue that I'll tell in the form of a pocket dimension mini-Marvel animated story.
The StoryTeller watching the scene in his studio with gLiTcH and EmperorBoo: Let's go, that's class! Hears the Groot scene. Flashbacks to being called out as being similar to that version of Groot by his parents
gLiTcH: Loads an inky, cartoony gun and aims it at Groot in the TV
The StoryTeller and EmperorBoo: Put that down, now. I am not messing around, gLiTcH.
gLiTcH: Puts it down but then pulls out dynamite kaboom?
Them: ... do we look like we're joking around?
Anyway,
So, here's my idea for an animation just in case you're interested in reading it
Hand me down my walking cane
Hand me down my hat (grabs his walking cane and hat)
We're going out and do not be late
Because we haven't got time to chat (beckons all of the kids and his younger brother, EmperorSheep to come out)
You and me
We're going out
To catch the latest sound (Points to them and himself before pointing outwards towards the blimp and catching a gLiTcHeD note just floating by and eats it)
Guaranteed to blow your mind
So high you won't come down (Then, an explosion happens on his head as the head proportions get exaggerated, lifting him high into the air onto his blimp and then deflates as he comes back down inside of it)
Hey you all
Prepare yourself
For the rubberband, man! (The blimp is slowly lifting upwards with its TV screen on the side of its lifting part turning on)
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband, man! (The blimp is slowly floating over a town towards a nearby Public school district)
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband
Starts to jam! (The TV then turns on to showcase The StoryTeller, gLiTcH and EmperorBoo each appear on the screen, with the StoryTeller having his face covering most of the camera as he slowly comes back to show everyone else much clearer, including his little brother)
Oh, this dude is out of sight! (He seems to get excited at the fact that the camera's on, just holding all of the excitement in as he jumps around in place before dropping a whole load of tests with straight As on them)
Everything he does (Then I come close to the camera with my hand near my cheek as though I'm telling a secret)
Seems to come out right (Then I back away with all of the papers surrounding everyone in a rainbow-like formation thanks to gLiTcH picking them all up which looks like I'm levitating them, but there are streaks of colors that show each of the ghosts actually picking each of the papers up and going into them to turn them into a rainbow around as I beam at the camera)
Once I've went to hear him play
At a club right outside of town
I was so surprised
I was hypnotized
By the sound
This cat put down
Once I've seen this short, plump man
Stretch the band between his toes
Hey I laughed so great
Cause he finally reached out through his goal (The Camera then buzzes out to a montage of the kids just trying to survive in school)
Chorus repeat (It shows him dancing as the kids each in the background showcase a much bigger screen playing an animation in the background of the kids greivances against the school's lack of responsibility for the kids)
Hey you all
Prepare yourself for the rubberband, man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband, man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband
Starts to jam
Got that rubberband (Flashbacks to more montage situations on the screen)
All around his toes
And then he wriggles it up
All around his nose
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Playing all of that music and keeping time.
Where in the world did he learn all of that oh
Lord!
Lord, come help him get away!
Chorus repeats the same thing as before, except this time it can be shown what the principle thinks of the blimp along with the rest of the teachers for a few watchable frames here and there
Rubberband man, Rubberband man
How much more of this stuff, does he think we can stand
So much rhythm, grace and debonair for one man, no
And then he had to move his left toe, and move it through his knee, got to get it through his head, you all
Oh, come on baby
Chorus
Rubberband man loves to jam
Moving on up and down across the land
Got all his people in his wake
Everything must seem out of place
Just moving, just moving, just moving, just moving, just moving, just
Rubberband man, Rubberband man
Just moving, just moving, just moving, just moving, just moving, just
Rubberband Man, Rubberband Man
Oh get down, get down low yeah!
I really and honestly can't 100% hear what the guy is saying though, but I think I understand him well enough, and anyway there's a comment down below that I can use.

Guardians of the Galaxy are my favorites, I love them even more than the Avengers they're like a family I was so happy to see them in Infinity War
@EagleBuilder
Agreed! Infinity War really needed them!
@lonewriterblues
...needed them to let Thanos win. @Star Lord
@corbinanderson5718
AcieTheLoneWriter well that was the only they could win was star doing that
@rosemarie2185
Oh, I see, you are a man of culture as well.
