They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

Underneath the autumn shade
I don't need no more
Remindin' of the day
Now the leaves are fallin'
And the sun won't be around
And the words I am a singin'
The Vines's song A.S III is a melancholic composition taking place in the early morning under the autumn shade, where the singer reminisces about the past and wishes to forget it. The lyrics convey a sense of nostalgia and weariness, suggesting that the singer is burdened with memories that he wants to shed. He is tired of being reminded of the day and wants to move on, symbolized by the falling leaves of autumn. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and introspection, as the singer searches for meaning and purpose in his life.
The song's themes of nostalgia, longing and moving forward can resonate with many listeners, as they are universal experiences. The use of nature imagery, such as the leaves falling and singing to the clouds, creates a poetic and emotive atmosphere. The repetition of 'I don't need no more' emphasizes the singer's desire for change, and the subtle guitar riffs in the background add to the dreamlike quality of the song.

In the early mornin'
At the start of the day
Underneath the autumn shade
Amidst the seasonal scenery
I don't need no more
I require no further
Remindin' of the day
To remember what has passed
Now the leaves are fallin'
As the foliage descends
And the sun won't be around
As the daylight dwindles
And the words I am a singin'
The lyrics that I am voicing
To the clouds
Are directed towards the sky
