They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

The Vines Lyrics

Runnin' in to all the people you wanna
And what it's all about
Wasn't anythin that you thought or knew...nothin'
Here we go round the merrygoround
Here we go round the merrygoround
Runnin' into people that you don't wanna
And the place that ya found
Wasn't anywhere that you thought
Or you knew nowhere
Here we go round the merrygoround
Here we go round the merrygoround
I don't know what is up
I don't wanna know
Here we go round the merrygoround
Here we go round the merrygoround
The Vines’s song “Merrygoround” is a metaphorical exploration of life's ups and downs, and how they resemble a carnival ride. The song uses the image of a merry-go-round, where one runs into people they want to meet, but also those they don't. The song's protagonist has no control over the ride or its direction, rolling around in circles, going nowhere. The lyrics are filled with a sense of confusion and aimlessness – “I don't know what is up, I don't wanna know.”
The song is repetitive, with the chorus going “Here we go round the merrygoround” multiple times. This repetition is symbolic of the cyclical nature of life that can lead people down the same path over and over again. “Merrygoround” is a reminder that in life, people may find themselves endlessly circling, both physically and metaphorically, and it is a maddening experience that provides no way out. The song sends a strong message about the challenges of life, saying that it is tough to know what you want out of life, and that it is even harder to get it.

Still? I really feel you cause i never listened to rock till last year because of the vines. Before that it was just rap, r&b and a bit of charts but now just the vines, the vines and maybe sometimes rap or other indie/garage/psychadelic rock stuff...
