And try, I'll try to make my case
And you give me authority
You give me authority
You give me authority to lie
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
I know you love me
If you just suck it up and
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
You know it's nothing
It's nothing sentimental
But I really, really need you to
Taste, taste the bitter pill
And hurt, hurt the way it feels
'Cause you give me eternity
You give me eternity
You give me eternity to die
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
'Cause I'm not worthy
Of your affection
But not I'm begging you to
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
You know it's nothing
It's nothing sentimental
But I really, really need you to
'Cause you give me authority
'Cause you give me authority
'Cause you give me authority
To lie
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
I know you love me
But you'd feel better
If you just suck it up and
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
'Cause I'm not worthy
Of your affection
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
Kill, kill me, Carolyne
You know it's nothing
This ain't a medal
But I really, really need you to
The song Kill Me Carolyne by The Whigs is a complex and emotive tune that explores some rather dark themes. The singer is speaking to Carolyne, seemingly begging her to kill him but not in a literal sense. He wants her to release him from the pain and torment he's experiencing. The lyrics that open the song, "Just leave my memory away and try, I'll try to make my case" show the singer trying to forget the past and start fresh, but he knows that he has done something wrong or made some mistakes.
The chorus of the song, repeating "kill me, Carolyne" is a mix of the pain and longing the singer feels to be free, even if that means his death. He knows that he's not deserving of Carolyne's love, so he's asking her to end things. He wants her to hurt him and make him feel the pain of his mistakes so that he can move on and forget. The lyrics "taste the bitter pill" represent the pain he wants her to serve him, the punishment he thinks he deserves.
The last part of the song, where the singer repeats "you give me authority to lie" is a crucial part of the song. It represents the guilt the singer feels for his past behavior, and how he may have lied to Carolyne in the past, leading to the current predicament. The song overall is a mix of the pain, sadness, and regret expressed by the singer to Carolyne, begging her to help him move on and forget his past.

It's a great song. They always have good hooks. That chorus is like a pre-cursor to 'Sex on Fire".
