April in Paris
Thelonious Monk Lyrics

Coba tanya hatimu sekali lagi
Sebelum engkau benar-benar pergi
Masihkah ada aku di dalamnya?
Karena hatiku masih menyimpanmu
Kisah kita memang baru sebentar
Namun kesan terukir sangat indah
Aku memang bukan manusia sempurna
Tapi tak pernah berhenti mencoba

Melihatmu tersenyum
Walau tak pernah berbalas
Bahagiamu juga bahagiaku

Saat kau terlalu rapuh
Pundak siapa yang tersandar?
Tangan siapa yang tak melepas?
Ku yakin aku
Bahkan saat kau memilih
Untuk meninggalkan aku
Tak pernah lelah menanti
Karena ku yakin kau akan kembali

Ada engkau dalam setiap doaku
Sungguh aku rindu berbagi tawa
Kini kita tidak saling menyapa
Biarlah hanya dari kejauhan

Melihatmu tersenyum
Walau tak pernah berbalas
Bahagiamu juga bahagiaku

Saat kau terlalu rapuh
Pundak siapa yang tersandar?
Tangan siapa yang tak melepas?
Ku yakin aku
Bahkan saat kau memilih
Untuk meninggalkan aku
Tak pernah lelah menanti
karena ku yakin kau akan kembali
Masih ber harap
Karena ku yakin kau akan kembali

Monk's greatest contributions are his compositions. His piano voicings are unique and suitable for his compositions. A European musician tried to remove what he called wrong notes from on Monk's compositions and virtually destroyed the songs. Hail the only saxophonist to truly understand Monk. His name? Charlie Rouse.

This comment is BS. Many have played his compositions and they work in many different settings, from Davis, through Evans to Brecker.

Also, Johnny Griffin understood Monk even better. Not to mention Trane...

This is a John Lewis composition though :-)

I think Steve Lacy had a pretty good understanding of Monk's music.

What I said was a European musiciam removed what HE thought were WRONG notes. I never said that Monk played wrong notes.

Saw him in Manchester England in 1961. I still have his LP record. Those were the days of real musicians and songs with melodies and feeling.

Of course in the fifties and sixties there were people who didn't like Monk's music because the ' the days of real musicians' were when they were young.

Superb recording by the always amazing Thelonious Monk. His album Straight No Chaser from 1967 is truly a phenomenal addition to the Bop archives. It will help you to mellow out even on your most stressful day. Peace be with you, Mr. Monk!!

Born 100 years ago today. Monk is still the best there ever was!
