The Princess And The Toad

La princesse ne veut pas l'embrasser
Le crapaud est sur le nénuphar
The princess thinks that he is so bizarre
Je trouve que ta peau n'a pas l'air très lisse
Pretty please I only need a kiss
If you kiss me I will marry you
But I could never fall in love with you,
I'll close my eyes and I will kiss you once
I never brought my lips so close to love
In the book the toad did get the kiss
And became a prince
In the song the story's not the same
When the toad got the beauty's kiss
Quand la belle eut subi le supplice
Rien n'avait changé sous le soleil
The toad was ugly it was all the same
The toad was smiling
The song by Thomas Fersen, "The Princess and the Toad", is about a toad who is in love with a princess who thinks he is bizarre. He stands on a water lily while trying to convince her to kiss him, saying that he only needs a small amount of love. The princess finds his skin rough and his long tongue unappealing, but the toad continues to beg her for a kiss.
The princess is hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to kiss him with the hope of the toad turning into a prince. However, when she opens her eyes after the kiss, she realizes that nothing has changed. Disappointed, she leaves the toad behind. The toad, however, is overjoyed simply by the fact that she kissed him.
The song is a playful take on the classic fairytale of the Princess and the Frog. It shows that sometimes, even with a kiss, things may not always turn out as we hope. It also highlights the idea of finding beauty in the unexpected and that love can come from unexpected places.
