Reci Brate Moj

Dabogda se ne ponovilo
Ja sam im o sreće pa sam kući došo
A puno ih se nije vratilo
Reci brate moj, jesmo li prokleti
Tad i vino krene, k'o čikola teče
Velebitska Vila doziva
Reci brate moj, jesmo li prokleti
Ne pitaj me ništa, tek svijeću upali
Za sve one što su za dom pali
Reci brate moj, jesmo li prokleti
The song "Reci Brate Moj" by Thompson discusses the themes of loss, memory, and the fleeting nature of life. The first verse describes a situation where the singer has returned home, but many others didn't make it back. The second verse talks about how time and memory can make it seem like everything is forgotten so quickly, except for those times when the singer remembers their songs and starts drinking wine. The bridge calls on the listener to not forget those who have fallen for their country even as time passes.
Throughout the song, the idea of a thick fog, representing forgetfulness and uncertainty, repeats as a motif. Despite the fog, there is a sense of camaraderie and a bond between the singer and their listeners, represented by the repeated use of the phrase "Reci brate moj," which translates to "Tell me, my brother." This phrase indicates an understanding between the singer and their audience, and a shared sense of loss and memory.
Overall, "Reci Brate Moj" is a poignant reflection on the complexities of life, death, memory, and friendship, all wrapped up in the context of national pride and sacrifice.

Don't ask me anything, it happened and passed
Dabogda se ne ponovilo
May it never happen again
Ja sam im o sreće pa sam kući došo
I was lucky and returned home
A puno ih se nije vratilo
And many did not return
Reci brate moj, jesmo li prokleti
Tell me, my brother, are we cursed
Pa se tako brzo sve zaboravi
That everything is forgotten so quickly
But, God forbid, they will need us again
Opet će se gusta magla spustiti
Once again, a thick fog will descend
Ne osjećam dane, tek poneko veče
I don't feel the days, only some evenings
Kad se sjetim naših pjesama
When I remember our songs
Tad i vino krene, k'o čikola teče
Then the wine starts flowing, like chocolate
Velebitska Vila doziva
The fairy of Velebit is calling
Ne pitaj me ništa, tek svijeću upali
Don't ask me anything, just light a candle
Za sve one što su za dom pali
For all those who fell for their homeland
Reci brate moj, jesmo li prokleti
Tell me, my brother, are we cursed
Pa se tako brzo sve zaboravi
That everything is forgotten so quickly
But, God forbid, they will need us again
Opet će se gusta magla spustiti
Once again, a thick fog will descend
