Rosario was born in Higuey, a province in the Dominican Republic. Since childhood, he and his brothers showed interest in music, even playing self-created instruments like bottle caps, plastic containers, and others. Soon they started singing and playing in the neighbourhood and started what would later be known as Los Hermanos Rosario with whom he enjoyed great success later.
In the late 80s, after 12 years with his brothers, Toño decided to abandon the group and started his own solo career. He debuted April 14, 1990 in the Roberto Clemente Coliseum of Puerto Rico. He went on to become one of the most popular merengue singers with some of his albums reaching platinum status.

The lyrics of Toño Rosario’s song, La Primera Piedra, tells a story of a person who was deceived and abandoned by their loved one, leaving their heart shattered. However, despite all the pain and heartbreak caused, the loved one comes back and begs for forgiveness. The singer acknowledges that they too have made mistakes in love, and thus forgives the other person. The lyrics stress the importance of forgiveness and not judging others for their mistakes because everyone makes them.
The chorus, “Que tire la primera piedra quien no ha pecado, si por los nuestros el señor nos ha perdonado” (“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, for the Lord has forgiven us for our sins”), is a direct reference to a Bible story in which a woman is brought before Jesus to be stoned for committing adultery. However, Jesus tells the crowd that the one without sin should throw the first stone, and everyone leaves without throwing anything. This message of forgiveness and compassion is central to the song’s theme.
The song's lyrics portray a universal experience of being hurt and forgiving. Forgiveness and acceptance are emphasized in the song. Even though we are all just human and prone to make mistakes, we should not judge others for theirs. Instead, we should learn to love and forgive those whom we know so that we can live in peace and harmony.
