You Hid
Toro y Moi Lyrics

Take me to somewhere now
You might as well waste your time with me
If you're gonna be here
Get away
From the woods that make you afraid
Down to the last few strands of thought
Give me somewhere to be
Take me to somewhere now
You might as well waste your time with me
If you're gonna be here
Wait
Wait
Wait
Wait
I don't think I'll work out
As your best friend
I don't want to hold you down
I know there's someone better for you
I don't want to be around
When you've gotta go
Go away
Go away
The lyrics to Toro y Moi's song "You Hid" are somewhat enigmatic and open to interpretation. The overall tone of the song is wistful and uncertain, with a sense of longing for connection and a yearning to escape from fear and doubt. The repeated refrain "Give me somewhere to be, take me to somewhere now" suggests a restlessness and a need for direction, while the lines "You might as well waste your time with me if you're gonna be here" hint at a sense of inadequacy or self-doubt.
The imagery of the woods that make you afraid and the last few strands of thought that make you a target for a fight conjure a sense of vulnerability and danger, as if the singer is struggling to navigate a hostile world. The repetition of the word "wait" adds to the sense of uncertainty and hesitation, as if the singer is unsure of what to do next.
The final stanza hints at a sense of resignation and a recognition that the relationship may not be meant to be. The lines "I don't think I'll work out as your best friend, I don't want to hold you down, I know there's someone better for you" suggest a desire to let go and move on, while the command "Go away" in the final line underlines the need to create distance and end things definitively.

I think the lyric is actually "And she's on her knees" instead of "and she's on her needs." :~)
