The sunlight against my skin
Do you remember it?
We all felt more alive
(You have to hold on)
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We tried to stay awake but we kept drifting off
We drifted off and we drifted
You never know just what you have until it's gone
And after the ink dries
Every page of this will burn
(You have to hold on)
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We tried to stay awake but we kept drifting off
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We drifted off and we drifted
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We tried to stay awake but we kept drifting off
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We drifted off and we drifted
Hold on
Sitting with my head in my hands
Outside on the steps of my home
You can't take those moments back
So hold on and never let go
Sitting with my head in my hands
Outside on the steps of my home
You can't take those moments back
So hold on and never let go
(Hold on)
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We tried to stay awake but we kept drifting off
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We drifted off and we drifted
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We tried to stay awake but we kept drifting off
Yesterday when the wax was burning
We drifted off and we drifted
The song "Asleep at the Wheel" by Transit tells a compelling story of regret and nostalgia. The first verse speaks to the longing for the carefree feeling of summertime and the warmth of the sun on one's skin. The singer laments about how they, along with others, felt more alive during those moments. The lyrics then transition into a reflection on the past and the idea that one never knows what they truly have until it's gone. The line "every page of this will burn" speaks to the fact that memories can last a lifetime, but are also fleeting and can easily slip away.
The chorus then repeats the phrase "yesterday when the wax was burning," which can be interpreted in a few ways. Wax is often associated with candles, which could mean that the singer is looking back at a specific moment in time, perhaps an evening spent with friends, before the candles burned out and the night ended. Alternatively, wax can also refer to a buildup of something over time, which could represent the loss of the carefree feeling of summer and the realization that time has passed.
The song ends with a plea to "hold on" to moments in life and never let them go. The singer is sitting outside their home and reflecting on the past, recognizing that they can't take those moments back. It's a powerful message that reminds us to appreciate the present and live in the moment.
Overall, "Asleep at the Wheel" is a poignant and introspective song that encourages listeners to appreciate life and hold onto the moments that matter most.

“Sitting with my head in my hands outside on the steps of my home, you can’t take those moments back so hold on and never let go.” it’s crazy how we always think the thing we’re going through at every moment in our life is the hardest thing ever when most of the time it passes and we have soo many great memories afterwards. This song reminds me that everyday is a new beginning and we can’t take it for granted. The world needs this song, especially in a time like this.
