Bright Lights Dark Shadows
Transit Lyrics

Believe me when I say goodnight.
Don't wake me tomorrow don't come wake me come tomorrow.
Sway me to that simple life,
Don't tell me with those sleepless nights.
Don't wake me tomorrow don't come wake me come tomorrow.
From these bright lights, and dark shadows
Set the stage when you know who you side with.
Nobody likes a liar, no, nobody likes a liar.
Save me when I start to slide.
Believe me when I say goodbye.
Don't wake me tomorrow don't come wake me come tomorrow.
Let me find some piece of mind that lets me leave the past behind.
Don't wake me tomorrow don't come wake me come tomorrow.
From these bright lights, and dark shadows
Can you mask the pain if you don't believe in it?
Set the stage when you know who you side with.
Nobody likes a liar, no, nobody likes a liar.
Can you mask the pain if you don't believe in it?
Set the stage when you know who you side with.
Nobody likes a liar, no, nobody likes a liar.
Stay with me, stay with me, stay.
I should've let you in.
Stay with me, stay with me, stay.
I'll never lose you again.
Can you mask the pain if you don't believe in it?
Set the stage when you know who you side with.
Nobody likes a liar, no, nobody likes a liar.
Can you mask the pain if you don't believe in it?
Set the stage when I know who you side with.
Nobody likes a liar, no, nobody likes a liar.
Stay with me, stay with me, stay.
The lyrics of Transit’s “Bright Lights Dark Shadows” are a passionate cry for help that deals with the theme of pain, loss, and inner struggles. The song seems to be addressing someone, with the plea to save the singer if they start to slide. The singer asks the person to sway them back to the simple life they used to have, without the sleepless nights that now accompany them. They are exhausted by the bright lights and dark shadows that surround them and wish for someone to let them find peace of mind, to be able to leave the past behind.
The song contains a recurring question: can people mask the pain if they don't believe in it? The answer seems to be in setting the stage when one knows who they side with, and not being a liar. At the end of the song, there is a plea for someone to stay, a request that the singer should have let them in before getting to that point of despair. It is a poignant plea to not lose that person again.
