Take What You Can
Transit Lyrics

You were right
The world is so cold
So bundle up
But keep up the pace
Because everybody's watching
And you got just what you wanted
Well, didn't you?
Keep up the pace
Because everybody's watching
And it's so hard to explain
How we can be so different
When everyone's the same
Screaming out the kitchen window
You were right
This world is so cold
So bundle up
Keep up the pace
Because everybody's watching
And you got just what you wanted
Didn't you?
Well, didn't you?
Keep up the pace
Everybody's watching
And it's so hard to explain
How we can be so different
When everyone's the same
When everything is cheap
And nothing's for free
How can we be so different
When everyone's the same
(Everyone's the same)
But you got just what you wanted
Didn't you?
Didn't you?
Yeah, you got just what you wanted
Everybody's watching you.
The lyrics to Transit's song "Take What You Can" describe the feeling of struggling in a cold world where everyone is the same. The singer is screaming out of a kitchen window, acknowledging that the world is harsh and unforgiving. They urge the listener to "bundle up" and keep up the pace, because everyone is watching and judging them. The repetition of this line reinforces the pressure to keep up with others, even though it's difficult to explain why we're all so different.
The chorus repeats the phrase "you got just what you wanted, didn't you?" several times. This could be interpreted in a few ways - perhaps the listener has achieved some level of success or status, but is still struggling to find fulfillment. Or maybe the singer is sarcastically commenting on the idea that we all want the same things in life, yet still manage to feel alone and dissatisfied.
The line "when everything is cheap and nothing's for free" suggests that we're living in a world where genuine connections and experiences are hard to come by. It's easy to feel isolated and disconnected from others, even though we're all essentially facing the same challenges. The song ends on the bleak note of "everybody's watching you", emphasizing the pressure to conform and succeed in a society that can feel incredibly competitive and judgmental.

transit is beautiful. bands like transit, bayside, and la dispute make the world beautiful. human bands, real bands. Bands where the people in them are just like you and me, not some celebrity, but people we can and do relate to. no they dont sound crisp, perfect, clean, or marketable. but they have heart, more heart then any of those bands do, and there real. love is the movement, reality is the movement. Movements through the beauty of music to change peoples hearts and minds, I love you. :)
