Small Town Me
Tyler Hubbard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'da loved that sleepy, little farm town life
If I'da never left it
But my windshield needed new "Welcome To" signs
And I just had to go
Down a road I ain't been to
Put myself in someone's boots
Just so I could really get to know, yeah
Small town me
I drive my truck
On Friday nights, I push my luck
Call the boys and raise some hell
Like we're all still seventeen
Small town me
Ain't scared to work
And get my hands down in the dirt
And it don't matter where I am
I'll always be
Small town me, small town me
Small town me, small town me

Small town me likes girls in cutoff jeans
And beat-up, pawn shop guitars
Goes big on the weekends
That's the reason that I work hard
Hell yeah, I talk to Jesus
I believe John 3:16
And I thank Him for the place I live
And who I get to be

Small town me
I drive my truck
On Friday nights, I push my luck
Call the boys and raise some hell
Like we're all still seventeen
Small town me
Ain't scared to work
And get my hands down in the dirt
And it don't matter where I am
I'll always be
Small town me, small town me
Small town me, small town me

A little slower ride
Little longer night
Says she loves this side, that's right

Small town me
I drive my truck
On Friday nights, I push my luck
Call the boys and raise some hell
Like we're all still seventeen
Small town me
Ain't scared to work
And get my hands down in the dirt
And it don't matter where I am
I'll always be
Small town me, small town me
Small town me, small town me

Ah yeah

Yeah, I'da loved that sleepy, little farm town life
If I'da never left it, huh

Overall Meaning

The song "Small Town Me" by Tyler Hubbard is a nostalgic tribute to the simple life and values of growing up in a small town. The singer in the song sings about how much he loved the "sleepy, little farm town life" he grew up in and how he sometimes wishes he had never left it. Despite this, he still considers himself a small town person at heart and embraces the values he learned growing up, such as hard work, faith, and close-knit friendships.

The singer describes a typical weekend night in his small town, driving his truck with his friends, getting into a little bit of trouble, and feeling young and carefree. He also talks about the things he loves in life, like girls in cutoff jeans and playing guitar. Throughout the song, he emphasizes his pride in being a small town person, one who is not afraid to work hard and get his hands dirty. Even though he may not live in a small town anymore, he will always carry that sense of community and camaraderie with him.

I think growin up in a small town impacted the type of music I make and I really wanted that to come through in the song and video for "Small Town Me." Whether it was riding dirt bikes as a kid, the car detailing business I had growing up or falling in love with music in church, each little snapshot in the video comes from different parts of my life that made me into who I am today. I hope y’all can hear your own story in it too.

Sooo I live literally in this town where this was recorded! How awesome! But also know a family who used to live in that White House where the two kids are going to a dance. 🤩🙌🏼 thanks for choosing Springfield to record this! We love our small town up here!

Thanks for filming this in my hometown of Springfield TN! Man growing up here was priceless. Bonfires keg parties pig roasts and tobacco barns smoking in the fall. You can not beat this town. I wish we could all just go back to the simpler times. The kids don’t know what they are missing. Thanks Tyler this is an awesome reminder of what I miss so much one day I hope to get back home

Since the first FGL song I heard back on 2010, I've yet to hear Tyler sing a song i don't love! In fact, H.O.L.Y was the very first song my daughter ever "sang" after she was learning to talk. So FGL & Tyler have a special place in my heart.
