The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Lithium
Various Artists Lyrics

I′ve found my friends ...
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that′s okay, ′cause so are you ...
We've broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I′m not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm so lonley, that′s ok I shaved my head ...
And I'm not sad
And just maybe I'm to blame for all I′ve heard ...
And I′m not sure
I'm so excited, I can′t wait to meet you there ...
But I don't care
I′m so horny, but that's okay ...
My will is good
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I like it - I′m not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I′m not gonna crack
I like it - I′m not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I′m not gonna crack
I kill you - I'm not gonna crack
I′m so happy 'cause today
I′ve found my friends ...
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that′s okay, ′cause so are you ...
We've broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I′m not scared
Light my candles in a daze ...
'Cause I′ve found god
Yeah, yeah
I like it - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I′m not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I kill you - Im not gonna crack
I like it - I′m not gonna crack
I miss you - I′m not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I kill you - I′m not gonna crack
The lyrics to "Lithium" have deep meaning and can be interpreted in various ways by different artists. The opening verses of the song describe the singer's joy at finding his friends within his own mind. The lyrics suggest that the singer may have been going through depression and withdrawal from the world, but he has found solace in his own company. The idea that the friends are in his head implies that he may have created imaginary friends to cope with his loneliness.
The next verse suggests that the singer may have self-esteem issues, which he has come to internalize. The lyrics suggest that he views himself as ugly, but he finds comfort in the fact that his friends share the same insecurity. Furthermore, the singer suggests that his friends have "broken their mirrors," echoed by the line "I shaved my head." This could be interpreted as a metaphor for rejecting cultural beauty standards.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses his desire for spiritual enlightenment. He describes finding God and lighting candles in a daze. The line "Sunday morning is every day for all I care" suggests that the singer has found his own version of worship and does not feel the need to attend church to practice his faith.
The final lines of the song are a repeated chorus that suggests the singer is determined not to give in to the negative emotions that may have afflicted him in the past. He states that he likes it and he won't crack, even though he expresses both his love and murderous thoughts towards an unknown person.
Overall, "Lithium" is a complex and introspective song that deals with themes of mental health, self-acceptance and spirituality.

Why is there a band in the centre? I always loved how the big chaos came into one voice without anything like this band…😢 And still: the smile on everyone’s faces is heartwarming ❤

The other 999 seemed to be back ups. I prefer seeing no one taking particularly taking the spotlight. It defeats the very concept imho
