Almighty
Wayne Watson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Almighty, most holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most holy Lord
Glorious, almighty God

The beasts of the field, the birds of the air
Are silent to call out your name
The earth has no voice and I have no choice
But to magnify God unashamed

Let the rocks be kept silent for one more day
Let the whole world sing out, let the people say

Almighty, most holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most holy Lord
Glorious, almighty God

Well, time marches on with the innocence gone
And a darkness has covered the earth
But his spirit still dwells, he speaks, it is well
And the hopeless still offered new birth

He will break the leash of death, it will have no sting
Let the prisoner go free, join the dance and sing, almighty

Almighty, most holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most holy Lord
Glorious, almighty

Almighty, most holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most holy Lord
Glorious, almighty God

Almighty, most holy God
Faithful through the ages
Almighty, most holy Lord

Glorious, almighty

The lyrics to Wayne Watson's song Almighty express the power and majesty of God, emphasizing that He is faithful throughout the ages. The verses detail how creation itself recognizes and honors God, with the beasts and birds of the world seemingly silent in reverence. The singer acknowledges that they too must join in magnifying God without shame or hesitation. The chorus repeats the title of the song, emphasizing God's almighty power and holiness.

The second verse shifts to a darker tone, acknowledging the darkness that has covered the earth. I heard this song on the radio YEARS AGO, and I have been wondering if I would ever hear it again.  Someone gave me a piece of paper with the name and writer on it, but where would I find someone to play it for me?  TODAY I found the piece of paper in a drawer and then I found the song on YouTube.  Wow!  Thank you, Lord.  It is a thrill to sing along with it.

sindi khumalo

One of the greatest songs that I've been playing since the 90s. It still blesses me.

Dr. Doug LaPointe

One of the great songs of all time. This was written when he was mad at God. What a great outcome when we choose to praise God even in our anger.

Me Deb

Great song! I agree that it's one of the best. That is an example of good CCM. These days, the stuff sounds more like grungy funeral dirges or 'Jesus romance music'.
