For a Girl In Rhinelander WI
Wingnut Dishwashers Union Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well there's a girl in Rhinelander who needs Kathleen Hanna
'Cause she doesn't think that girls can sing rock 'n' roll songs.

Well I don't think they got Bikini Kill records in small town
Wisconsin record shops, but that's where they need them now more than ever.
So if there's still girls still growing up in this world
To believe they can't sing rock 'n' roll,
I don't wanna live in this world anymore.
And no I don't wanna live in this world anymore.

Overall Meaning

Wingnut Dishwashers Union's song For a Girl In Rhinelander WI is a commentary on gender stereotypes and the lack of representation of women in the rock 'n' roll genre. The lyrics convey the frustration of the songwriter with the fact that there are still girls who believe they cannot sing rock music. The reference to Kathleen Hanna, the lead singer of Bikini Kill, is a nod to her influence on the Riot Grrrl movement which aimed to encourage women to participate in punk rock.

The song points out the irony that small town Wisconsin record shops may not be stocked with Bikini Kill records, even though that is where they are needed the most. The songwriter is stating that there is a deficit of empowerment for women in small towns, and all over the world. This lack of exposure to female punk rockers and their music reinforces the belief that rock music is a male-dominated genre, discouraging women and girls from pursuing their dream of singing rock music.

In conclusion, Wingnut Dishwashers Union's song For a Girl In Rhinelander WI expresses a desire for a world where women are free to pursue their passion for rock music without facing gender stereotypes and inequality.

I live about 30 minutes away from that hell hole. This song is way to accurate to be honest and they could use a punk scene. Everyone I've spoken to shouts the same bullshit, but I've yet to speak to anyone one with their own ideas, instead all i get is regurgitated bullshit because they lack the capacity to have free thought.

I am here with my fiance and we got free sodas from the kwik trip by walmart and they let us make ramen there. We got a shit ton of food and towels from the Frederick house, too.
