Shelcha
YAEL NAIM & David Donatien Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Too many screams in my throat
Too many faces, too many plans
That I wanted to change

So many words, if I can tell you
There's no other love
But the one I live with you
Still don't know how
We let all this happened
Will this war last forever and ever?

They've burned my hands
Cut my hair and steal my soul
But do you really want to know?

Rest in peace with my sorrows

Are we alone or together
Or are you my greatest war?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Yael Naim David Donatien's song Shelcha poetically convey a sense of inner turmoil and uncertainty within the singer. The singer complains about being overwhelmed with too many screaming voices and plans that she wishes to change. However, amidst all the chaos, she expresses her steadfast love for the person she is with. The artist is trying to come to terms with the fact that they're dealing with something larger than themselves and feels like they could use some support to make it through.

The artist seems to reflect on the senseless nature of war and conflicts, wondering if it will ever end. The lyrics suggest that the artist has been subject to some form of torture or persecution, with mentions of burned hands, cut hair, and a stolen soul. Even under duress, the artist continues to question their relationship's nature, whether it's one of solitude or partnership, or whether the person they're with is their greatest enemy or ally.

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take
But since I came here
Felt the joy and the love , fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

I'm a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

This is a happy end
Cause' you don't understand
Everything you have done
Why's everything so wrong

This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I'll take you far away

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take
But since I came here
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la....

It was 2008, I remember renovating the house with my Dad. I was just 11 at that time but I made a lot of core memories when this song played in the radio. Now I'm 26 and and my Dad passed away just this year. This song makes me feel like I'm 11 and complete all over again.
