Their four track debut EP, ‘Mirrors’, has been produced by former SikTh members Dan Weller and Justin Hill (Enter Shikari, Haunts, Gallows), and covers a host of subjects, from party-induced-excess and temptation, to adolescent aspirations and dependency, and all this in little more than 16 minutes. However, it’s a brief blast of promise that should more than whet the appetite for what’s to come from the five-piece and serves as a ringing statement of intent.
A 12-track debut album 'All Our Kings Are Dead' was released on the 21st of July 2010, and was well-received by both critics and fans alike.
With former Johnny Truant drummer Paul Jackson (Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats, The Ghost Of A Thousand) handling artwork duties, and a forthcoming remix of ‘The Weight Of The World’ by Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins’ L’Amour La Morgue project, there’s a distinct British flavour to ‘Mirrors’.
“British music is so healthy right now, the scene here has been building for a long time,” explains singer Gustav Wood, “and to have people from some of the best bands, past and present, helping us out and digging our band is incredible.”
Having clocked up shows alongside the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, The Answer and We Are The Ocean already, and with a relentless touring schedule ahead of them including supporting All Time Low on their UK tour, it’s going to be near impossible to avoid Young Guns in 2011, and on the proof of 'All Our Kings Are Dead' and ‘Mirrors’, we wouldn’t advise even trying.
[1]On October 13th, Young Guns released their new song 'Learn My Lesson' after it was premiered on Zane Lowes Radio 1's show at 7.30pm.
Young Guns' new album 'Bones' is out in Feb!

Been cast aside from the world above.
We practice dark arts and open casket love
We bathe in the warmth of a plastic sun
And when we pray we feel one way love
I know it's so tough when you look but can't touch so
Please
Give it to me, give it to me
Yeah, they say that your best ain't good enough
But don't bow down when you could be rising up.
My heart can't shake the feeling
They lied to us
So don't bow down when you could be rising up
We're in love with defeat
And we march to the beat
But I know what I've seen's not out of reach
So give it to me, give it to me
Yeah, they say that your best ain't good enough
But don't bow down when you could be rising up.
My heart can't shake the feeling
They lied to us
So don't bow down when you could be rising up
We're alone we're all bastard sons
Been cast aside from the world above
We practice dark arts and open casket love
Yeah, they say that your best ain't good enough
But don't bow down when you could be rising up.
My heart can't shake the feeling
They lied to us
So don't bow down when you could be rising up
The lyrics of Young Guns's song "Rising Up" are about a group of people who feel cast aside by society and the world. They see themselves as "bastard sons" who have been rejected and left to their own devices. They are outsiders who practice "dark arts" and engage in a kind of "open casket love" that is shunned and ridiculed by the mainstream. Despite this, they still have hope and yearn for something more. They pray for love that they cannot attain and feel the frustration of wanting something they can't have. However, the chorus of the song tells them to rise up and not to listen to those who say that their best is not good enough. The message of the song is that anyone can rise up and overcome their circumstances, regardless of how dire they may seem.
The lyrics of "Rising Up" are powerful and emotional. They speak to a sense of alienation and marginalization that many people feel in today's society. The song encourages listeners to stay strong and keep pushing forward, even when it feels like the world is against them. The use of metaphors such as the "plastic sun" and "open casket love" add to the dark and brooding atmosphere of the song. The repeated refrain of "give it to me" also reinforces the idea that the characters in the song are craving something that they can't quite grasp.
